Found somebody's dog

We found a dog just West of Basin on Saturday. He's an Australian Shepard, black, brown and grey, mostly black body. He has a tracking collar on him so we assume someone would want him back. The magnet was still on the collar which I believe turns it off. My wife has posted him on facebook and we have learned that someone may have found him earlier this week near Powell then he ran away from them.

There's some remnants of a phone number painted on the collar, the best I can make out is a 416, which we found out may be a buffalo prefix so there's no telling where this guy has been or where he belongs.

We are taking him to the vet tomorrow to see if he has a chip and for a general checkout. If you guys know any ranchers missing a dog please let them know and pm me. We just want to get this guy where he belongs with the thought we would want the same effort if it was our dog missing.

Thanks
Matt

No luck on the chip. Vet confirmed he's an intact male about 3-4 years old. He seems in pretty good health, but vet guesses he's been on his own for at least 5-6 days in the badlands. Right now we are keeping him at our house on the heated porch, and scheduled him with my sister in law to get cleaned up tomorrow. I took him for a walk around the yard at my shop this morning and he does real well on a leash. I have to think this is someone's pet that they are missing.

My wife is/has been calling vets around the basin and even across the mountain today with no luck so far. Any possible leads, please let me know.

Way to step up and find the owner! I love dogs and have an Australian Shepard myself. If you can't find a home for him and don't want to keep him I would love to take him. He would have friends and lots of room to run!

Still no luck finding this guys owner. We are starting to think he has been abused quite a bit from his behavior. He's starting to warm up to us but he still doesn't like any sudden movements and if you pick up your foot for any reason he hits the floor and hides his head. Overall he's a pretty mellow dog and we like him, we just can't give him the home he needs. We have been trying to find someone to take him but so far no luck. Ultra, if you're serious let me know. We had one guy look at him today who is thinking about taking him but wants to think about it.
