Fort Collins Area

We are planning to head out to ride the 17-20, and will be staying in Fort Collins. Haven't been to the area before, but was wondering what the closest off the trail riding is? We are not looking for anything crazy, just hoping to find snow due to the fact that where we live in SD has had maybe 10 in. total this year and it has all melted.

Good luck on finding GREAT snow conditions. It's a bad year for precip. But the closest off trail and backcountry riding is in the Snowies. If I were you, I'd stay in Larmie.

^^^ What PJ said! ^^^

However, if you already have a place to stay in F/C then make the trek to the snowies for riding (about 1.5 hours+). For about the same amount of travel time you can go over Cameron Pass to Gould and ride over towards Grand Lake. Snowies would be better than Gould though....

Ya, the reason we were going to stay in Fort Colliins is that it would be free to stay, but driving 3 hours a day + to ride outways the free place to stay. We are not looking for great snow, just snow in general for the fact that no one in our group has even ridden yet this year. How is the snow in the Snowies looking, or our other option is going to Waldon.

stick with your plan

stick with your plan one thing is for sure fort collins has a awesome night life and is a generally fun city! I went to school there! Snowies have prettygood snow sounds like plenty for what your after

Walden. Night life is waiting for your turn on the sheep. Just kidding. Ain't no sheep in walden either.

If you wanna party it up then the FC or Laramie is your best bet. After riding in the Snowies. Cameron Pass is a slow pass, uses a crap ton of fuel as you can never get good speed.

I's stick with riding the Snowies.

Green Chili beer at Cooper Smiths in Ft Collins

So good that I drive up from Denver and bring jugs home, and I'm not even much of a drinker

Ewww. That doesn't even sound good. But if you bring one up to RE sometime, I'll try it with an open mind.

It really doesn't sound good, but it is ( =

I'm a micro brew type of guy and their green chili beer is fantastic

I was doing the Ft Collins tour and some super educated beer geek that I was chatting with pointed me towards it.

I'd agree that the night-life and BEER is all good here, but the fact is that the snow REALLY sucks for sledding in Ft. Collins!:behindsofa:

The Snowies are pretty good right now, some of the better snow I've found in the area, really....but it's in the trees. I haven't been to widow-maker, so I don't know how that side is, but the Albany/Green Rock area were good on Sat and they've had another foot or so.

That's better than what I've seen all season here in East Central CO!

Strap up that helmet, you're killing the view! ( =
