Ford tested, Ford engineered, Ford built

I love these!

I love posts about trucks on SW. I am the same as a previous post and would love to own one of the last 6.4's. I have always said, if you want a tough truck with crazy motor, buy a cummins (notice I say cummins and not dodge, because it just hurts too much!), if you want a nice 4WD car, buy a GM, if you want the best of both worlds, buy a FORD!

I believe that the 6.7 is being produced, because the emission standards are increasing in their severity and the 6.4 was not going to pass, and would require another new build. Instead of investing dollars back into a relatively new motor, Ford decided to build its own. Ford and International were on the rocks for a while, as the 6.7 design started back in 07. I am excited for one, as I love diesel technology. In a fantasy world, the emissions would remain what they were the beginning of 07 and we would have all the tech we have now. Could you imagine 500 HP from the big three, and then let the aftermarket world have it!!

I love my Fords and wish them all the luck in the world, with a design like that they are a first on many levels and I believe they will need it.

I'm still driving and will continue to drive my 02 7.3. As far as im concerned this is the best truck motor combination Ford has to date!!
x2 got 239k original injectors and motor internals and runs better then the day I bought it. I did the first tranny at 232k and put in a $5k BTS HD tranny so no worries there for another 250k.

Best built truck period not the fastest but best all around.

Driven 2 new fords with 6.4's both averaged 9 to 10 mpg city/highway with some light towing, even reset the meter on the thruway with the cruise set at 70, best was 11 mpg, a duramax will get 17 to 19 under identical conditions, and feels much more powerfull.

The 6.7 will be built in Mexico per Diesel Power magazine. I will just keep my LBZ since I only put 10,000 a year on it, if I had extra cash I would buy as many low mileage 5.9 and LBZ's as possible for I see them bringing a premium in the future.

We are going to demo one of the new Massey tractors that use the ad blue urea. the dealer already has them, i will find out more when they bring it out.

A lot of you people talk out of your a$$'s about stuff you don't know much about. The 6.4 is not being replaced because it is a bad motor because its definitely not a bad motor. Duramaxes are faster stock, there is no doubt about that as they are around 800-1000 pounds lighter on average and make little bit more horsepower stock.

Currently the best chip/exhaust/intake package is the 6.4 liter ford. The new Spartan setups on the Fords (crew cabs) will run Low 13's, which is pretty crazy. The D-max is pretty damn close with EFI Live but the tranny's will tend to go into limp mode but with twin CP3's and tranny upgrade they will run deep into the 12's depending on cab configuration.

The reason that the 6.4 is being replaced is because of disputes ford had with International over the 6.0 warranty costs.

My 6.4 STOCK gets 15mpg on average and I push 17 on the highway depending on terrain. If I drive @ 55-60 I can get 18-19 but who the hell can ever do that. I drove from Western to Eastern WA (through a couple of mountains) and got 17.2 mpg. I am sure with a Spartan setup I could easily get 18-20.

I hope the new motor works out for Ford, they NEED it to if they hope to save face after the early 6.0 and 6.4 issues.
Myself, I'm probably going to have my 7.3 until it won't run anymore!

I miss are 7.3 dually, wish the 6.4 would do what it did and get 13mpg. 32 foot 5thwheel flat bed with tandum duals with a curb machine, 4835 gehl, hydro hamer and 2 tons of rebar. hit the down ramp and go like a sob........It will be missed. 6.0 on the other hand, gota love lemonade. 6.4 good truck lot quiter. pulls decent, love the starting over winter. dislikes never know when you punch it if your going to go or if its is goin to go into a burn... hope this 6.7 has the best of the 7.3,6.4 and the older 6cylinder cumins in it.

Not sure if its been mentioned yet but apperently the new superdutys are going to be availible with a rear locker and the 6.7 is going to have 6 head bolts per cylinder....should help with th head gasket issue at least.

I drive a 2005 6.0 and after more than $40,000 in mechanical repairs in the last couple of years I was reluctant to buy another Ford. However I love the look of the new 2011 F350....that dash is absolutely beautiful. I certainly will not be buying one in the first year of production of the 6.7L motor but who knows......a 2011 could be in my future!

Not sure what to think of the grill hopefully it will grow on me as I see it in person. Interior looks about identical other then the little LCD in the gauge area which be nice if it shows some real info like exact coolant, tranny, egt temp all of which is available in the computer. Don't need another warning system though telling me if I have or haven't hooked up to a trailer ect that part looks kinda annoying.

good post

I like what I have read here. Usually you get alot of bias input, but all in all this is very informative. I currently drive an 05 ford f-250 v-10 Lariat. Mine is a shortbed, and it is my 3rd and last shortbed. I am also still paying for it and making plans to buy a diesel. (I like the convience of not having to look for a diesel pump, but dont like the 8 to 13 mpg). My own personal knowlege is my father's 2002 chipped powerstroke 7.3 gets a solid 15 towing 4500 lbs of sleds, the older cummins 95-97 get roughly 19. I am not set on what I will buy yet, but I have driven all the new models, and wouldn't throw rocks at any of them. The 08 and newer Dodge is rumored to be an emissions nighmare, I don't care for the durability of the GM front ends, and would be skeptical of a 1st year ford engine. (I am one of the guys who heeded the rumors of the 6.0 powerstroke and bought a gas truck). My buddy who owns a custom farming operation has the 08 powerstroke crew longbed with a 6.4 twin turbo chipped. He immediatly cut out the catalyic converter and his gas mileage jumped from 13 to 18 highway. This is exactly what I aim to do If I am able to grab a truck like that. I dig the pics of the 2011 powerstroke in the above link! Thanks for posting that. If anyone cares about what mods I have done to my v-10, they are: AFE cold air intake.-$269.00 summit racing catalog. Banks monster exhaust $559.00 bankspower.com , throttle body spacer at summitracing.com 159.00. Cooper STT mud terrains and a kickin system to keep me entertained at 81mph towing sleds down the interstate. The only thing I can say was a mistake was the Banks, (sad but true) Waste of money, sounds stupid, COST me gas milage!! very disappointed in that one. Wish I had money to rip it out and go to an mbrp stainless like my father's powerstroke has, it is sweet! Thanks for all the info!! ciao!

Pulled 21000 pounds with our 99 7.3 one tonne dually yesterday.Power wasnt too bad, it is completely stock and probably had a dirty air filter as usual.Really sucked the fuel though.Has a steel hydraulic bale deck on it too.Whats that like 35-40 sleds lmao that most of you think you need diesel for four sleds and a aluminum trailer.
