Footwell screen kit??

bog from vents

I installed the Holz Vents last week.
Went riding this weekend and my clutches would slip really bad after a left hand powder turn.

If you own the holtz vents you should make sure to put some sort of prefilter material on the clutch side before you go out riding with them.
Otherwise you may get stuck like i did this weekend.

Not saying it's the only reason but that's what I've been saying for over a month now. I still have a little of a problem every once in a while and it probably the snow coming in down at the footwell but until I find something to screen/block it off, I will not know for sure.

I Carved some turns in a big empty field the other day, and looked down while carving, and saw a large solid stream of snow coming off my ski, channeling through the little valley on the lower black body plastics, right on to the top of my boot.

When I stopped, the little pile of snow fell forward and dumped down into the footwell area on both sides. Multiply this by a few hundred turns, stops, foot adjustments and it's as if I was shoveling snow forward into this area.

Will be cutting barrier vents out of perforated steel tomorrow.

Also I see alot of PRO's running around without the little rubber "gaskets" at the bumper/hood/fender seams, tucked in properly, this would be a great channel for snow ingestion, especially when following others while riding in a group, which is when alot of the snow gets ingested as ice crystal.

the footwell vents that avi8tormd has shown work great put them on my sled and they work great with the screen material over the clutch vent its perfect

It's not a issue, well not on my sled anyway. I've ridden 4' of blower and have not had any problems at all.

I second that i have been in 4 foot plus of powder and carved all through it on the clutch side and no problem yet i have over 200 miles on it and its awesome. IMO foot screens are not needed

I would imagine it's relative to foot placement when carving. I'm short and somewhat light so my feet are as far forward as I can get them so they block the offending snow. If you stand further back, it appears to promote snow ingestion. I guess it's whatever works.

I don't think the belt slippage issues are from the footwell. As Rick stated when he checked at night he could see light coming by shock tower. This is indeed true, I was out for a few hours tonight trying to get the belt to slip, when I do donuts on left side or when I smash drifts the clutch would slip then dry and be OK till I did this again. Getting pissed off cause man I don't want to blow a $200 belt. My oil light came on so I went home and when I opened up my side panel the top of the wiring harness and the top of the clutch cover were filled with snow. There was NO WAY it came from the footwell, so I close the panel and started the sled, yes sir you could see the light through the 1/4" crack between the door panel and bellypan. This is where the snow is entering. I will try to fix it tomorrow, either with a foam tape or with black silicone. I'll let you guys know if it works.

Mine def were NOT from the footwell but there was water under the primary and snow on top of the clutch guard like yours. I'm 99% sure it is the upper stock vent on the side panel - any over hood snow is gonna drop right down in that stupid vent! Gonna tape prefilter material under mine tomorrow.

Have FUN!

I thought these sled were tested for 100000 miles, I guess they didn't test it while burning donuts on the left or smashing drift. I guess they were tested in the mountains ON THE GROOMED TRAIL. HA! HA! HA! This is a bunch of B.S. . This should of been fixed at the factory before it was sent out. You don't see $14000 car without door seals do you?

Here is a pic of a first prototype. I still have some mods to do to get it to fit better. Also I am going to add some vent holes to the upper part (the area above the toe hold bar), but keep the lower part blocked off.

Also I have an extra prototype part so I will ship one out for free to get some more testing and feedback on it. Please PM me if you are interested and are having issues with this problem.

Thanks.

John

Anybody thought of using the footwell vent off of a 2011 switchback assault looks like it might work and would close up the hole better.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. I just picked up my 2012 and was surprised how i could actually touch the clutches from the foot well.

Did this turn out to not be much of an issue over the course of last year? I'm thinking some perforated metal and zip ties are an easy fix if needed (like someone mentioned).

I got a really nice footwell vent kit for the clutch side from modrods at the snowshow. I have yet to install it(still waiting on sled) but it looks like it will seal this area from snow pretty well. I'm not sure if its on their website so it might be worth a call.
