I had a chance to test out the new SPOT yesterday on Baker. After talking with the sales rep, I mounted it on my handlebars where it would have a direct signal up. Put it on the front of my bar riser (clipped right on).....on the other side from my Garmin Rhino. The snow was really deep and it was submerged most of the day
After getting up the mountain, I pressed the OK button 4 seperate times about 30 minutes apart. After a few hours of riding, I hit the 411 "help" button. I had only listed my wifes email and cell number and had it read "411 test". I let it run for about 30 minutes while we rode. Then I hit OK again. It might not have been a great test since we were mostly riding over Sulfer where the sky is fairly wide open but when I got home I had 4 separate OK's...4 "411 tests" at 4 different locations, and another "OK" at the end. I could even pull up the map and see the locations of where I was. Pretty cool.
I am going to keep testing but so far I have to say that if it works like it seems to, it would be well worth the $150 to get it. I'll keep you posted.
