Flat steering on the Pro

One of the things I am having the hardest time getting used to on the Pro is the flat steering. Coming from an XP I really like how the bars dive down on the inside when turning. It seems to make carving a bit easier especially at slow speeds. I think this is a result of the way the steering post comes up out of the chassis. Does this bother anyone else? Any suggested fixes?

Welcome to a normal sled. This is how Poo and Cat ride. This is why all of us have such a hard time riding a Doo

I agree they tun like crap, the only fix I know of is to go back to Skidoo.

It's all a matter of what you get used to. I cant stand the way the doo turns...but that is because I have been riding Poo since my Indy 500 in 93. To each his own friends...Good luck with your new Pro

I understand that it is something you get used to, but I actually see an advantage to being able to drop your inside elbow in a turn, especially in slow situations. It gives you better leverage on your sled. May be something you can get used to, but that doesn't mean the machine couldn't perform better with a little change. I almost never had to use my mountain bar on my ski doo. I find it a must on my poo. Most of this has to do with the flat steering. I am not knocking the pro. Overall I am very happy with it and I feel that it is the real deal. But there is always room for improvement. :face-icon-small-coo

Only thing you need the mountain bar for is to lift the machine up if it happens to be laying sideways for some reason.:face-icon-small-hap
Bend the inside knee and try using your outside leg to bring the machine over. Point your inside shoulder were you want to go.

If you guys are over 5'10" you may benefit from a riser also. 6' here before the Klim boots and prefer a 2" riser.

You could pull it back a bit by running an Assault SB rear hoop/top assy...It angles back towards the rear more like on the RUSH.

I dont belive that there is one "better" set up and it is what you've become accustomed to over 100's of hours riding.... I've watched Borchers and Brown... Adams and Burandt rip it up on the both the XP and the PRO.

Well I went from the IQ to a 011 XP (MxZ X-Rs) with the top of the steering post moved 2" forward. Done by Ski Doo to eliminate the flop. So with my Ski-Doo, no flop. Thank God.:face-icon-small-coo

Tried the XP last season, hated how the steering was and how tired I'd get after riding it. Sold it and still have my two RMK's.

You find that cutting the skis.. may help.. also just tilting the bars back just a touch..

I have a thread on Cutting the skis..

Thanks for the suggestions, but I am a more than capable mountain rider. I have no problem turning a sled. That is not my complaint.

Mtnpull, I don't really understand your question, but would love to hear a comparison, your opinion, between the pro and your old XP, if you don't mind. Those two sleds are so opposite in "feel", I wish you luck in adapting quickly!

I actually found the transition very easy and smooth. It may have helped that I didn't put a single mile on my xp this year and started out on a pro. I expected more of a learning curve. However my XP was never a challenge to ride as some suggest it is. I had it set up well and it responded very nicely. I think my XP put a noticeably significant amount of more HP to the ground than the pro, but I seam to do everything if not more on my pro. So imagine if we could get another 10-12 HP out of the pro. So far I am very pleased with the pro. I do wish the steering angle was more like an XP. I think this give the rider a big advantage on the slow or stopped turns. Just being able to drop that inside elbow and automatically have a little extra leverage helps in that really slow turn out situation. In the normal carves where you are carrying some momentum it is not a big deal.

I always wondered why I couldn't ride an XP, until I really looked hard at how the bars actually moved while you turn it. They have that arch to them that allows you to bring your elbow down like you suggest. For some reason that arch movement throws me WAY off. I guess I've ridden with "flat" steering for so long I cant ride anything else. However, I can ride the SNOT out of my friends Nytro MTX and it has a funny steering angle too....weird....

rode a couple xp's damn thing wouldnt lay on its side and always tried to kick me over to the other side. I can sit down and sidehill my iq the xp was the most terrible rideing thing ive ever been on i always kinda wanted one till i rode one

It's all in the set up. Ditch the sway bar, stiffen up your front shocks and adjust the track strap and front track shock. Rides completely different.

Of course I didn't have to do all that to my Pro and it rides super sweet.:face-icon-small-ton

coming from several XP summits the RMK steers like a whole new animal. With that being said I really like it. When I jump on the wifes Summit I dont miss my XPs at all.
