is there any good way to prevent a small 2 inch crack in my windshield from expanding into a big one. i was thinking of trying to use a real thin coat of clear silicone but didnt know if it would help anything. Have any of you tried something that may prevent any crack from expanding

thanks

here is how us farmers would fix that.. take a smal drill bit, (1/8th inch) and drill a small hole at the bottom of the crack... It will stop the crack unless it gets spread apart really hard, but it will also give you a funky looking "dot" in your windshield....... OH BY THE WAY... put sled/windshield into heated area, and drill it with it at room temp... that will help keep it from cracking further as you press the bit into the plastic...

Drill a small hole at each end of the crack(stops the crack from spreading). Drill small parallel holes on each side of the crack. Lace the sides together with small zip ties(color of your choice).:( Done this quite a few times!:beer;

Agree with Up High, then order a new windshield and have on the shelf for the next incident, they just get bigger with each ah sht. Dino

YeA I all that Frankenstiening

Drill the hole like others say... but I put a layer of clear packing tape on both sides of the crack. I like that over the "zip tie" to hold the edges together.

thanks everyone for the replies i'll see what i can do today and go from there.
thanks again

+1 for the packing tape thing. Did that on the rain-gutter-window-thingy on my truck and it's held for over two years now.

busted one of the tabs off of my windshield a couple of years ago. got some special plastic glue at the local fleet supply store and it held up for 2 years since then.

Call your local pit repair peeps... They will fix it for cheap and have the right tools. If you insist on doing it you will need a glass drill bit to drill at end of crack then run some glass resin into it with a cheap chip repair kit at local parts store. You can work the resin along the crack and actually fix the crack as well. It will take some preasure on the crack on both sides so be careful. OR call the chip repair guy.

thanks guys i should have also put in though that it is on my snowmobile. that was my bad. thanks anyway himark

Most of us knew that it was for your sled, you did put it in the snow section.

I have always used clear packing tape to make them last longer.

ya i figured but i just threw it out there anyway. I ended up using a few zipties and drilled the holes in it. It doesnt look to bad and i think it turned out better than i first thought. Now we'll see if it holds up

I fixed mine, after it cracked I threw it in the trash, haven't had another cracked winshield since. NFW I am paying $80 for a useless piece of plastic!!!!!!

Using a glass pipette run a stream of methylene chloride down the split a few times, do this outside with some wind.

I have had good luck using a wood burner and melting the windshield back
together. Leaves a bit of a scar, but chicks dig scars right!

That's the same thing I do and never had a problem......unless you wad hard and rebreak it.....usually will need a new windshield after that cause the little break is now a huge one..;)
