First ride with P-85'd 800R

isn't a comet clutch real close to the p-85?
can get one for e-start and bolt right on.
seems like same type of weights and spring poundage.
seems like an easy way to get same results.

I don't think the Comet is nearly as durable....by the way, my P-85 is for sale...no problems with it, have other reason for sale.

Winter Brew,
I tried the P-85 on my XP but the alignment was way off. It seemed to vibrate alot more than the TRA. Did you have Vibration problems ? I had the clutch balanced after I tried it and it was really close so I don't think balancing was the problem. I tried a Almond spring and 64 gram weights and it seemed to pull right to 8200. It did feel like I could go with a bit heavier weight. I was at 3200 feet. I could visually see the belt was out of alignment so I think that might have been where alot of the vibration was coming from. Any thoughts?

Thanks

You will feel more vibration. Maybe run a slightly softer spring, cheaper than weights. If your P-85 is tapped for a starter ring gear, that may help with the vib.

Thanks for the input. I may just wait and see if the 09 clutching updates work for the RPM fluctuation.

Get an Evinrude E-TEC outboard with direct drive, it won't display any rpm fluctuation out on the water this summer:D

It sure is, and maybe that is the point. Leading edge two-stroke technology which really delivers performance and economy. I believe your motor does too, but, can't deliver consistency through a closed faced, POS, Bouncing Betty of a drive clutch.
