First Ride on the 15 wide Extreme

Please explain how a 3 pitch track will run on stock 2.86 drivers. What is the downfall, mechanically, long term, ratcheting, vibe, chaincase?? What are the consequences?

It works, the windows are big and is not an issue.
The CNC'd Avid drivers are .25" smaller and comes out to be a 2.88 pitch.
Go onto Dootalk and do some searching if you want more testimonials.

Sorry but this story sounds inflated....We've done extensive testing with 15's and 16's and as long as your clutched correctly and getting the power to the track thed 16 has tyhe edge only in floatation....

The paddle configuration and the stiffness of the lugs will make a differance....If your trenching 3 feet deep as your statement claims you better take another look at your track,

Good tracks float and don't trench.

OT

Next time READ THE ENTIRE THREAD OT. Mine is an SHR860R!!!!!! If you can show me a 40 degree slope with 4 feet of powder and a sled that doesn't leave a 3 foot trench, i'll buy it. Your story, "sounds inflated"!!!:face-icon-small-ton

The 3.0 pitch track will go DIRECTLY on a 2.86 drive just fine. Avids 8 tooth 3.0 pitch drivers for Doos are actually 2.88. I found a bunch of guys on here and Dootalk that put 3.0 tracks on their stock 2.86 drivers. One guy did 800 miles last year completely trouble free.

If your digging 3 foot trenches in ANY TYPE of terrain your not floating. A good powder track is not suppose to dig but rather fan the snow out the sides which allows the track to float rather than dig.

Bottom Line if your happy thats what counts.

so if i wanted to run the powerclaw 141" on my TNT it would work fine with the drivers?
Anyone have anyideas where i could get some rails or extensions to work ith this combo

I'm tearing mine apart again because the 8 tooth is a little tight with the powerclaw. Just got a 7 tooth last night from slp, who runs a 3.o-7 tooth driver? I'm going to have to re-gear now and I'm needing a place to start.

3.0 gearing

I swapped to a 162x2.5x16 3.0 pitch Challenger Xtreme last year. Bought DJ's clutch kit, I have been running 19/43 for a year and a half, love it... DJ said that I could gear up a touch when I install his kit, haven't done it yet (installed the kit, that is...). I lost some top speed with the new drivers but I'd rather have the extra torque. When I get around to installing the kit I might swap the gear up a tooth to see what happens. DJ was really good about fielding my questions, you should give one of the gurus a jingle. DJ, BJ, or many of the popular faces on here. keep on keepin on.

What driver are you using? I was running the 19/47 before but now I've dropped 12% driver diameter. I guess I'll get my calculator out and figure some combos that get me back to where I was.

I understand what your saying OT. But it's just that I have never seen any sled nor any track, climbing in 4 feet of powder that didn't leave a 2-3 foot deep trench at the top of the climb. Maybe they exist!? I ride with M7's and attack 20's; it's a good work out following them up a climb through the trees due to the trench the leave!;) Yep, even the mighty Attack 20 will trench and isn't it supposed to be THE powder track? I mean if a track never trenched, then the sled would never get stuck! Now then, if there's a sled that is impossible to get stuck, I want it:D

Wouldn't you agree that getting stuck is a driver issue and not a track issue?

And yes we all get stuck from time 2 time

OT

Yes and no. Getting stuck can be rider error, too much pow, too much slope, being on a 121 etc. What do you ride OT? I'm curious as to why your sled never trenches:rolleyes: Are you 383? LOL

why not buy the 2.86 extreme track instead of the 3.0?

I own a Nytro and not an XP, but I went from the stock 15 wide to a 16 wide and back to a 15 wide again and there is no question the 15 wide handles better. I dno't think I'll run a 16 wide again.

I'm running Wahl /bos 7 tooth drivers and they are showing some signs of wear (break in) as they choose to put it. I am happy with it so far but I don't know how much wear is ok nor have I tried to run a 15 CE either. Nikolai posted some free Wahls I believe for this exact reason. I will just run them untill I have a problem. I also have read a lot about people preferring the Avid drivers? Coincidentally, I was just telling my friend that while riding his 09 D8 this last week that it felt soo nimble on the rear wheels while carving in a wheelie, almost too easy for me to turn. I fell off a lot in my shoulder turns and playing around. Now, after reading this thread it makes sense that I'm used to a 16 wide long A$$ track and I could feel the difference big time. I won't say that I prefer the 15 over the 16 as I don't seem to have a problem at all hucking the 16 around? Even with my lack of tallent, I do alright with the 16.... I need all the float I can get to offset my laziness.

The problem with the 2.86 tracks is that they are still new, and therefor, expensive. There are a ton of 3.0 tracks out there for sale in the $400 range. If you get a chance to ride an XP with a 15, doo it! It is an amazing difference in handling. The 15 really "speeds" things up. If you're a "sit down" guy, forget it. But if you like to attack everything in site, the 15 is the only way to go!!!! If you live close to me-Northern CO-I'll let ya take 'er for a spin. I ride the Snowies, Vail, RE etc.

Thanks Husky, I'm glad to hear someone else is running 7 tooth 19/47 and likes it but according to my math at 8000 rpm's you're running 64 mph? I think 75-80 is about where I've been and it seemed OK. I might run these lower gears for a ride just to see if maybe I was over-geared before. What are some of you other guys running at 8000 rpm?
