First Colorado ride

We are planning on heading to CO to ride for 4 days towards the end of February. The 19-22nd. We are trying to figure out an area to ride where we can base out of one lodge or hotel and maybe head a few different directions and check out different areas. It will be just two of us (me and fiancé). Maybe looking for someone to show us around a bit. We are experienced riders with good equipment and avalanche gear. Any suggestions are welcome. We normally ride the ID WY border area and want to expand our horizons.

THUNDER MOUNTAIN LODGE.:high5::high5::high5:

You will NOT be dissapointed.

Ok, that sounds great and might be the outcome, but what about something like staying in Frisco or Buena Vista and trailering out a bit each day and seeing new country each day? I really don't know the good spots and maybe they are poor but we are just curious about different options. By the way, the photos at TML look awesome. Backcountry riding is what we are looking for. A trail is just a convenience to get to the good stuff sooner.

You won't even come close to covering the Mesa in 4 days. And if back country riding is what you want, the Mesa has WAY more back country riding than trails. The boondocking is amazing. Don't care what your level of riding is, the Mesa will challenge you. From TML you can access ridiculous and vast amount of riding areas. No reason to trailer.

We trailer to TML and ride from there. Most evey weekend. No, we don't ride the same stuff every ride either. Always new terrain.

TML is a great place for what you say you're looking for. Lots of riding straight from the parking lot. Billy's cooking is fantastic, and he pours a good drink. Plenty of local riders leave from there too if you're looking for advice on where to go, cannonman is a great resource too. Much smaller crowds than any of those I-70 areas. It is a little bit of a drive to civilization though.

As a former Minnesodan. I would would really suggest the TML. They seem to have the best snow right now. Everywhere else is pretty thin, could change quick. But you can't beat riding out of your cabin. I have only heard great things about the place. I think Mark is from that cheese head place, but don't hold that against him........ :behindsofa:

Nothing I know of around Frisco or Buena Vista that would be near the experience of West Yellowsone. Grand Mesa though in my opinion is better than West Yellowstone. My brother comes out every year from near West Yellowstone and we ride Grand Mesa for a few days and he feels the same. Main trail in Grand Mesa is over 100 miles long so you can imagine all the backcountry there is.

Oh, and Grand Mesa Lodge sells race gas mix at a very good price (might negate carrying lots of fuel up the hill)

Don't want to step on TML's toes, they do a great job and have great riding, but what about Grand Lake?

You can hit the Ears or Corona, and you can ride in town from your hotel to the trails.

Just another option... :face-icon-small-hap

central location

frisco silverthorne area is very central to alot of riding. if you dont mind trailering up to two hrs you have grand lake, winter park area vail pass only thirty minutes away, buena vist is less than two hrs, leadville little over an hour. red white in vail 45 minutes. even the messa is probably under 3 hrs from frisco as well. needless to say if you are OK with trailering this area is very central and has all amenities. add a little more time if its snowing but most places are pretty strait forward. if you are looking for ski in ski out with a rustic feel check out vagabond ranch jeremy and his wife run a great ranch in a beautiful setting. mike

What the hell..............

Did anyone think of mentioning :director: Thunder Mountain Lodge. Mark...........Billy's cooking..........Uber snow.........Uber yummy-ness......(technical term)

TML

Just come to TML! Grand mesa is a great place to ride for all skill riding! There is So much riding up there from steep hill climbing to open parks and rolling hills to burandt/rasmasun style tree riding(my favorite). Mark and billys service at TML is second to none! Great food! Good prices, and great people they make you feel at home! You wont regret it! Plus if you wanna ride else where there is several other riding areas around here you could ride while saying at tml such as lake erwin, red mountain pass, Black mesa, rifle gap.

OK. Took the advice. Booked at TML. Sounds like a great place and looking forward to checking it out Feb 19-22. Thanks for all the replys.

Currently at TML and rode the past 3 days without covering the same tracks. Every day we have been able to find untouched areas with ease. As said above, this place is huge and has everything from entry level to extreme. I don't think you can go wrong here. We (myself, snorider075, and TML Stud Horse will be here Feb 20-26. Come out, you will have a blast riding here.

Still headed to TML but am going to be stopping to run a 5k in Boulder Sunday morning, because we enjoy that sort of thing and my fiance' went to school at CU Where would be the best place to ride that day not too far from Boulder? Grand Lake? I need some ideas. We like back country riding. We will drive to Cedaredge or something close that night and ride TML/Grand Mesa area the next few days.

Met up with the MN crew Wyatt, Heather and Jeff today. Great ride with some great people.:face-icon-small-hap Hope to see you guys again at the TML.

Gotta give a big high five to the whole crew at TML. They do know how to treat their customers. Customer service and satisfaction are fantastic there. The food is awesome. Billy is the best. The snow is fantastic. Awesome riding. Thanks to Mark/Bohica for showing us some excellent new areas. We will be back and highly recommend it.

A huge thank you goes out to Covelli44, the rest of the guys from Chicago, Cannonman, Roscoe1208, and anyone else involved for orchestrating a flawless special delivery. Heather and I are extremely greatful for your help with our dilemma. We hope to see you all again. Thank you.
Wyatt
