Fire N Ice Air Intake

I want to drop some pounds and have been thinking about this air intake but have heard some different things. I have heard from a lot of people that once you change the air box, they have had nothing but problems. The sled won't run well. Has any one heard otherwise?

Fire & Ice - not durable

All of our Fire and Ice intakes on our 900 RMK's broke. (Brittle)

I Called Fire & Ice and they told us we have to buy new ones.

Another $250 bucks each.

We won't be buying them again.

Try SLP.

Hearing some people just gut the existing airbox with lots of Luck. I have a Fire n Ice and have had no problems.

The single best way to loose weight on the sled is the exhaust can.

Second the Fire N Ice thumbs up...

I've tried all of the airboxes out there on the 900's.... SLP, VanAmburg, TCP, Fabcraft, stock, Fire N Ice and Timbersled.

Hands down the Fire N Ice..

Rideh2o.... your experience is exactly opposite of my experience with FNI...Paul Hurley, the owner is one of the most customer oriented guys that I know of... He has always gone the extra mile for me and given great customer support.

It sucks that your box(s) failed... got some Pix???

IMO, the SLP is the worst design (an evolved version of the TCP).. it is hard on the throttle body boots with the normal flexing of the front nosepan that it is screwed to. It draws air from under the hood when the front grille is plugged (which is all the time in deep powder). If you put a hole in the plastic grille on the nose pan, or bump a tree, you will be sending snow and debris into the engine thru the airbox.. The timbersled draws hot air from under the hood.

The best place to draw air is from up high in the console where it is nice and coola and wont get plugged.

A gutted stock air box is a very good option IF you go with better console intakes and seal the airbox plenum in the hood (arond the headlight and gauge mount). You would need to run a good side panel vent, stirrup vent and take the cubby-storage-box out on the PTO side for better cooling of the clutches.

The only worry with the stock airbox is that if you blow a belt, it will punch thru the bottom of the airbox and send debris into the motor... you can keep this from happening by lining the bottom of the airbox (on the outside) with some .080 aluminum.

Good luck.

I want agree with the fire-n-ice. I put a slp on if you hit a tree you have to buy a new and if you nose it into a creek it truns into a water pump. go with the fire-n-ice

where can I get the fire n ice airbox? When I go to the web site, I can't find the airbox? Once you install the box, do you have to make any changes?

The most difficult aspect of installing the fire and ice is installing the bracket and placement of brackets for the metal belt guard.

The belt guard is the main reason I bought the FnI kit.

If your interested in a custom fab option, pm me.... I have THE best intake I've ever seen for a 900/755 RMK.... It will only work on a piped sled tho and I do not know if it works with SLP, CPI or any others pipes available for I have an HTG pipe(which is the best IMO). I am not a shop nor do I know if anything actually does work better, but it was superb to my gutted stock airbox with my setup. And from what I know about airflow, mine should be able to gulp twice as much air as any intake available. The Filter inlet sits at 4 inches!! I wish I knew how or could post pics because people have wanted to see it to mimick it many times. PM me if your up for the challenge....

rmkcoaky900..

no matter WHAT intake you get, custom or one on the market..you will pay about teh same price..$200-300..juet get the FNI and have the best around..#1 by far..

the tubes just don't fit with the stock pipe. I have an HTG and there is a lot more room on the left hand side of the pipe. couldn't tell you how an SLP or CPI is though.....

P.S. Some people have had good luck farming a 4" flexible tube to the intake plenum and stiffining it up.

fire n ice

I like mine also
getting cooler air from the outside to the carl's 975 is great
