After having my turbo apex catch on fire today. I am wondering how many people carry a fire extinguisher on they're turbo sled and what kind?
Got the fire out by the way and will figure out how bad it is in the morning.

Koso

I carry that small red koso you can buy on eBay for $8
Usually once a sled catches fire you can't put it out with snow, had my completely stock Polaris burn to the ground in 01.

After today I'm going to go and buy two of them one for the seat and one for the backpack. Thinking some small like for aircraft use.

Yes a powder lites kit
I'm sure it a fuel leak some where that I missed this fall when I rebuilt it. Just have to find it is all.

this after we got it back too the truck.

if it has a plastic tank, the tank probably move ahead enough to touch the heat sheild & melted the tank, ask me how i know:face-icon-small-shoi have stops on my nytro so this cant happen

From what I found so far it seem that the fittings that screw in to the tank is the cause. When I pulled the fuel lines off one of them seemed lose in the tank. Will reseal the fittings and test it for leaks.

My Apex lit up on me a couple years ago. I think it came from the flex joint blowing out. It was a BD kit, on a 55* day...

Just before the ride, pulled the 174 skid out and had the stocker with an A20.

Im going to carry one on the back of the sled..

A small extinguisher isn't going to do much unless you catch it early enough. My buddies Ski-Don't caught on fire a couple weeks ago by his shop. He used up two big extinguishers and had to shovel snow on it to get it out.

Just bought a small Halon extinguisher this morning. A little bigger then a liter bottle of water. The guy told me that unless the whole gas tank is on fire it would put it out. Asked if two of them would be better and was told that if this one didn't put it out it wasn't going to go out. I guess it's the same kind they use in aircraft. If nothing else it a piece of mind to me.

Just a smaller version of the one that is in my jet boat. On the box it say's it's 1.5 lbs.

dont ALL boats require a fire extinguisher anyways?? :face-icon-small-ton

Yes but when I bought my new jet boat I didn't want to deal with resdue from a dry ABC extinguisher. I've worked on equipment that has had the fire system set off and it makes a mess. So when I was talking to the dealer they told be about the Halon systems. More money but no mess to clean up. I hope I never have to use the one in the boat or the one I bought for my sled. But if I do I want it to #1 work great and #2 be easy to clean up after.

I have an Alpine front mount and just installed it. Luckily I caught the fuel tank leak before I rode it. Mine was leaking out of the tank level sending unit flange. Its sealed to the tank by an O-ring. I took it all apart, cleaned it and reassmebled it with Right Stuff sealant in addition to the O-ring setup. That fixed it. I believe Powderlites made the kit for Alpine so you may have the same problem. I was able to see the fuel leaking down the tank behind the steering column. Have a look there if its not the line fittings. Hope that helps.

Where did you get the Halon fire extinguisher? I'd like to get one. Dont want the mess if I have to use it.
