Fire Extinguisher / Corrosion to a Sled

I know that this is not the right forum, but this seems to be where everyone in my area hangs out.
My cabin was broken into last week and pretty beat up. The thieves tried taking a sled and got it out of the garage, but must have given up on it and left it in the driveway. They then took a fire extinguisher to it in an effort to cover up prints. We found it a few days later and gave the sled a detailed cleaning and put it back in the garage. A few days later I was reading about how corrosive fire extinguisher powder can be. I returned to the cabin to p/u the sled and take it in to be cleaned and detailed. I am now waiting on my insurance adjuster to review the sled prior to the dealer starting any work. In the meantime the plastic and aluminum are both corroding FAST. It wouldn't take much (a replacement hood, carbs, clutch + the broken parts from the attempted theft) to bring the cost up so quick that the sled would be totalled. Has anyone heard of this before??? Is there anything that I should really watch for to make sure my sled doesn't corrode away a year later if they give fixing it a go????

Ps: Whoever broke in to my place left the remote to the LCD TV that was taken. Please pm and give me your address. I promise that I'll drop it in the mail to you.

That sucks - freakin' thieves. I would move or copy this to General Snowmobiling though as you will get more exposure / answers to your question , not to mention it applies to that section ; more-so then some of the stuff in there. Good luck and hope the insurance takes care of you.

Yes you are quite correct they are so corrosive that dry chemical fire extinguishers on planes are used only as a last resort because they quickly damage structure and avionics. sorry for the bad luck thieves suck

Oh man thats sucks!!

What area is your cabin? No neighbors??

My place is in Cle Elum. I am on about 4 acres.... So no close neighbors. I am guessing that it happened early last week, but we didn't discover it until the weekend.
Insuance is on it and I just hadd a security company installing a new alarm and video surveillance today.
