Fellow SW'er needs a little help....take a look

Hey Guys:

I need a little help with this one. The guy in the letter below has a gamut of health issues, not the least of which is being confined to a wheel chair with limited upper body use. He has been working to get a 2000 Polaris back together for his son that he had to sell the engine out of to pay his sons college tuitions. Indy Dan gave me a great deal and together we sent him a new 800 for the sled (here is the original thread). Sounds like he needs a few things from his letter below. I am willing to pay cash if anyone knows where I can get these parts. Any help is appreciated, I really feel time is a main concern. I really want Ty and his son to be riding together this season.

I am also going to ask if he would like to have a little help finishing it off. I think he lives in the Lincoln, MT area and I would be willing to pay all expenses if anyone would want to make a trip over with me and help him out. Thanks in advance. EW

His message to me is below:

Hi Eric,
Hope all is well in your world. I was just letting you know I am still hanging in there albeit by a thread...:) I am slowly gettin the 800 together when I am able. My dilemma: I need a primary clutch and a stock airbox. Remember I have a 2000 Gen2 chassis with your 2004 engine. What I do have is an Indydan 800 crank still in the box (still wrapped up even) and a set of 2004 spec'd "good" cases. I would be willing to trade them for the above mentioned parts in need. The Crank came from a guy in Oregon who lost all his sleds in a trailer fire. I bought it from him just shortly before entering the Indydan contest. It has the big brg. kit of course. The cases are stock (w/o extra oil hole). If you know of anyone in need, I would trade to get the 800 back to "stock" config. The airbox bottom is what I think I need, maybe the whole thing, not sure. I checked. and in 2000 Polaris had an 800 with mikuni rack style carbs. I am sorting out the damaged wiring harness that will give me the ability to have reverse. Anyhow, I lost my son to the city of Denver, (school and recording studio) so the progress has been slow. But, if you know of anyone in need please let me know as I am going to finish this project no matter what. Took second place last weekend at the GVSA grassdrags on the 08 shift. (Against Dr.'s orders :) ) If I get this 'ol 136 800 going I am sure my son will have a def. advantage over the longer tracks. I lost all my physical "grunter" help due to my youngest going to bootcamp October 31st so its been a frustrating summer/fall. Tell everyone hello and that your efforts to get me going are still for a worthy cause. I am not looking for free stuff, but I will trade.

Your Friend,

Ty aka "goinvertical"

darnit...

To all, and especially EricW,
I know you know how much I appreciate your help and out of this world offers, but, I had some help from family and friends and ordered the new airbox and some various other parts. (Thanks Mom!) I am so embarrassed that I am unable to have completed this project of ours last year but I AM gonna get it done! So many of you jump in with offers but my pride is standing in the way.:o I have a couple of weeks to get this done and even against Dr's. orders I am going to do it. I cannot express once again the gratitude for Eric and all of you. It's very important for me personally to overcome this obstacle as I USED to be able to do these things. It is part of my battle that I have with being a para. I refuse to let it stop me. All of you people know EricW will go out of his way (literally) to do the most humane things for any who need help. He is a mentor to me and my son. (I actually live in Harlowton,Mt.) Anyhow guys/gals I want to do this for me and especially my son so that even though I am having a hard time, I need to show myself and all of you that there is no quit in me. I will refuse free parts and physical help until its absolutely necessary. The only obstacle that frustrates me is the financial part. I will not beg or accept free stuff anymore. It is embarrassing. My wife has been helping me move the sled around in my little shack so I can get to each side of it... Last season all of you sent more than enough parts, theres just a few odds and ends I am assembling. I dont really know what to say here. Lots of so called "friends" (local) have offered to help but our schedules are never sync'd. Some high school kids stop by every now and then to help out and move stuff for me and I try to give back knowledge in return as thats all I really have left to spare. I work on their bikes or atv's for free if I can. My physical difficulties are just that, difficulties, not obstacles. Obstacles I can climb over or if I have to, crawl over. My point is, I was just letting EricW and Indydan know that I didnt accept this engine and parts just because I wanted something for free. I am trying to show whom ever it concerns that no matter the pain or financial humps, I WILL get this done. (Especially my son). I am only able to be upright for just a few hours a day and I have to be able to actually function. Nothing is going to stand in my way. My son is in Denver so its hard for him to help now. Darnit you guys I am feeling humiliated that all the effort you SW's made last season hasnt paid off yet, but just give me a little time and I will prove I can do it. So please, unless you see me stuck underneath the sled and my wheelchair has rolled out of reach, dont help. I will keep my cell close just in case....(oops its in my wheelchair bag!) :) EricW you little fart, you just shhhhhh. I know you are trying to help, heck, everyone knows, but just give me a little (cupl weeks) before you call the cavalry. You are a hero and a role model to me and my son. :)

p.s. I am heading out to the shack so am logging out for now

damn and to think I get mad when I can't get a good angle to take a bolt out....

Ty your a hell of a role model for all of us SWers....tell Eric W if he wants to help you will accept only if he runs from his place to yours.

i have a primary off a 700 polaris. if it fits i will give it to you guys. just takin up space in the shop and it sounds like its going to a really good cause!!!:D
Let me know if anyone knows if it will fit;)

a lil tired today....

I have almost all the necessary components for the completion of my "goinvertical"/EricW/Indy(theman)dan RMK. I am still missing a decent clutch. All the ones I have are not fit to put on this new engine. (Heat cracks.) I was going to try and run one, you know, just that one time....but we all know how that goes. Next thing you know, broken clutch and damaged engine. I took the whole sled almost completely apart yesterday trying to figure out how to swap in the 2004 wiring harness. going to see if brother will bring his over as a "template" so I get everything where it needs to be. Rexburg motorsports called and shipped out p/v's and airbox so I think that is covered. I do have a 2004 service manual but it sure doesnt help showing where and how to lay that harness in. Keep in mind, this is a damaged harness off a totaled 04 that was "junked up" due to extremely high risers being added and not lengthened properly. Also a little heat damage.... It has almost frustrated me (2004 800 engine into a 2000 700 chassis) to the point I considered donating it back to my friends EricW/Indydan. I am learning as I go and that isn't always bad. So much effort and offers have been made, plus the fact I know others have done this, that I have to just suck it up and try to keep my patience. It will be kool to have reverse on this old girl. I think maybe I should send Indydan the crank (still has his invoice in original box) and cases and see if he might trade for a decent clutch..... I owe him so much. Guys and gals, the crank is a Indydan big brg. crank for an 800, the cases are SLP checked and said to be "good". Its that darn primary clutch that is holding me back. They are NOT cheap and, through Indydan and others posts on this subject, I HAVE to put on a good clutch to keep the engine healthy. Any help/advice on harness and trades would be appreciated.

Ty aka goinvertical

p.s. EricW you still have dibs on these parts to try and offset the cost of what you have done for us. I will wait to hear from you.

Ty:

I do hear ya loud & clear on the help and pride thing. That said, you might also think about giving some of the rest of us folks a chance to share in the "feel good" part of your project. What you are calling charity is on our side a chance to help a brother out, warm our own hearts up just a bit, and amongst all the negative things in our world today actuall have the chance to feel a little sunshine and self worth knowing that we were not only able, but actaully did help a brother out. As a father and role model, its important for our kids and peers to see that just like your son is seeing that in you.

You wouldn't want to rob that rare dose of "feel good" from us would ya? If your answer is yes, then neener, neener, neener, your not the mom of me. LOL

Looking at the posts above, you got a few clutch options. Maybe the best plan for your quality spare parts is the "pay it forward" method. Maybe there is another SW brother out there who could really use the stuff for his project. Imagine the possibilities if we could get a pay it forward movement going. I have always thought that a thread to post that kinda thing up would be a great idea. I know for myself I have tons of stuff that I don't feel motivated enough to sell, so it just sits there in the shop while there is no doubt someone who could use it. It would be great to get those parts and those people together in the name of snowmobiling. Kinda "Ty" them together if ya know what I mean.

It sounds to me like you need to start with a fresh wiring harness just in the name of saving time. Is that true? Maybe there is opportunity for a harnass for crank trade out there and maybe a little install to boot. This is a great forum with a lot of kind people. We have all used the wisdom, caring, and giving that make this place great at one time or another. Allowing the forum to help in your project on serves to make it stronger and get you and your boy on the snow sooner.

Speaking of that, any snow up your way? Cold mornings or frost? PM me your phone number Ty, I want to be able to bug ya online and when your at rest. LOL. Your pal. Eric

Ty your a hell of a role model for all of us SWers....tell Eric W if he wants to help you will accept only if he runs from his place to yours.

I could make that trip carrying you on my back my light weight friend. LOL. EW

neener lol :)

Eric,
The "neener, neener" has me laughin so hard I can hardly type! Cant really type anyway but still... No, sir, I def would not want to rob anyone of feeling good about something they did or do. Is there any better feeling than that? Nope! The new harness is $190, I had a fellow SW'er call me back on that one. Too much. I just need to splice and repair this one a little and it should be fine. Time is of the essence here as I really wanna' get it going for the Billings Mt. grass drags. These are for a young man who just recently broke his back right after getting married. I donated my winnings back to the GVSA after taking second place. I have done this everytime except for the first time I ever took place in the event. It was kool to hear the announcer give me some compliments as we drove out of the pits heading home. Anyhow I am going to do the same in Billings as it is fir a worthy cause and it gives me an excuse to race. Yes my wife and Dr. strictly forbid it, but, "neener neener neener", they arent MY Mom! LOL. The 800 should have a slight advantage due to the track length, and of course "OUR" engine. Even if I only win 15-20 dollars I will give it back. Yea a new harness would speed it up, but I might have to skip m/c races on tv today to drag my (weary) i.e. lazybutt into the garage and man up. Yesterday I woke up super early to get a head start, but never made it outside til 3pm. Today I AM going out there. Wife is gone to work so she cant stop me. :)
I guess I am afraid of asking for physical help as I dont want anyone showing up and just standing around because I am missing parts. Like most I enjoy just sitting around telling stories in a garage but I NEED to show up in Billings with this 'ol girl growling at the competition. Plus, like I said, I love to race. My son is going to try and be there to run it but we arent certain his schedule will let him. If I have to, I might "steal" my bros. clutch and run it if he will let me. I appreciate the offers people, and am still laughing about the "neener" comment. :) So, its off to my aqua-therapy, then out to the shack and put some bolts back where they should be. Eric, I will pm you my number. To all of you who keep reading these posts about this project, my hat is off to you. Just makes a guy proud and keeps me from procrastinating despite the pain and effort. Salute!

Ty aka "goinvertical"

p.s. I recently recieved my Trans-Montana ride entry form, I wanted to do this ride as the cause and proceeds for it are for persons and other assoc. stuff pertaining to MS or multiple sclerosis (sp) We start in Canada and end up in Raynolds Pass, outside West Yellowstone. It starts Jan 18th and ends Jan 23rd. $350.00 in pledges are required. Estimated costs are $500.00 lodging, $150.00 for meals and $250.00 for fuel. I already approached a couple people and got some interest... I really would like to do this, its not a race, its a benefit ride. I just think it would be kool for a "challenged" person to do this. :)

Ty i got a clutch at work today that will fit the old 700 let me know what weights and spring you want in it and I will bring it when i come up and if there are any problems with that new airbox let me know so I can get something coming before the drags

ok ty not to be a jerk but before you get a clutch what exactly do you need it for. is it to fit an 8 or a 7. and darn it let me know if you get the wiring harness working. you could send it to me and i will solder it back together the way it should be. just let us all know we all want to help and like i tell others i am a giver, i give until it hurts and then i quit giving because it hurts and that is factness.

darnit :)

Sir,
Gonna call you "sir" cuz I doubt a girl would be a "Hairy Mark" :) Engine in question is a 800 from Ericw/Indydan. I took most of the sled back apart yesterday....blah! Cupl kids stopped by and told me they would "yank" that engine out so I can drop harness in easier. (Cant reach everything from where I sit). I would surely send you the harness but dont think there is time. I appreciate the offer! I am as bad with electrical repairs as I am with anything that has carpentry involved so this should cause a divorce. LOL j/k. Maybe not...

And Cameron if you are coming home bring me something that might work. Remember what happened when I borrowed that clutch from Jeffy that time...:(

You have no idea how correct you are. Click Here for a little verification. Warning.....put down your coffee, any tools or sharp instuments, and clear your mouth of any food or drink before clicking.

Sounds like WestMont has a line on a new harnass, I have heard a few offers on the clutch, anything firmed up there? I have been out early and home late (hunting not working LOL) but I'll give you a call for an update.

What are the date/time/place on the grass drags your shooting for?

OK I'm going to click the Hairy Mark link one more time before I gotta go, 146th time and I still laugh myself stupid. Isn't this just cool when great (and Hairy) people come together, it helps me offset the people I meet in traffic. Thanks all and have a good one. EW
