Fastrax Drop and Roll install tips

I am about to call to order this kit. As I am going from 155" to 163" the new rails and Exit shocks will put me back over a grand. And that is enough to consider adding an aftermarket skid. But is it worth it? Does the D&R kit's rear suspension changes make enough of an improvement to not need a new rear skid? I am eyeing the Mnt Tamer.

Roadtrip,

I don't know if you're asking me about the suspension vs. skid or not, but if you are, unfortunately, I don't have a clue. I wish I did though, cuz that would mean I'd have a fancy aftermarket suspension. :D

I made no changes to my suspension except what is called for with the FTX D&R kit. I did the kit to clear the different track, not for the suspension changes. FYI, the kit relocates the rails farther back on the skid arms, and the skid arms back inside the tunnel, so the rails end up moving back about 1.25" if that helps. At the moment, I'm still using the OE WE shocks, I just had them recharged to my weight based on my local dealers recommendation (he has a good rep with setup).

Hope that helps,

Just learned something

Hey folks, just got off the phone with Justin from FTX, he saw the pics of my mods on the other thread, and called me right away. Apparently, I missed the part in the directions (#14) where we are supposed to remove the roll template on the chaincase side after drilling and cutting, and NOT install it. I installed mine, and made the adjustments to the bearings on the jackshaft and driveshaft accordingly. We are still deciding if I'm going to take it all apart to take it off, or just leave it and run it, not sure. I'll update with what I decide.

uh oh....dang it..that really sucks..so since it is all fresh in your mind a quicky 1 nite rip it down and remove?...should be able to just pull the t-case right?

I wish it were that easy. I have to pull the axle, and move the pto side bearing and the drivers the thickness of the plate that I'm removing. I'm going to have Curt take a closer look at the photo of the axle and bearing, I might be able to just leave it in there. Everything is all lined up as of now, so as long as the bearing inner race has enough meat on the pto side shaft, I should be ok. Just have the extra weight.

Even if I decide to do it, it should only be a couple hours tops, but it just won't be any fun. :(

It actually says to take off the template in step #14 of the directions, but the statement kinda 'gets lost' in the paragraph if that makes sense. While we were on the phone, I read the steps out loud, and we both agreed that it's definitely in there, but it would be nice if it was worded better. Ultimately, this one is on me.
