Farmington caynon road open yet?

Sure was! Took the wifey and some friends up to shoot some pumpkins and stuff. First time ever shooting a gun for her. She took down 4 cans in 9 shots at 7 yards... not too shabby. :boxing:

That's pretty good if she was shooting an LCP. haha

The gate at the B is still there... lucky for us it opens down hill... be really easy to hook a chain to it and pop it open... (did i say that out loud?). Im still trying to figure out the purpose of the chainlink fence on the first corner?

I thought that was you. I was on a dirt bike but was in a hurry to get to truck and didn't realize it was you till later. Klim coat and boondocker hat gave you away. Nice shooting for the lady ;)

Someone finally bought that house below the new chainlink fence, so I would imagine it's to protect it. (I can't imagine living directly below the B. Insane)

Ya that gate wouldn't last. I'll bring the chain ;)

The gate at Buckland will be closed soon after snow hits the ground. The gate at the B was supposed to be temporary and should have been gone by now. (ya we know how that works) I was up there Sunday with my tape measure out when DWR drove by, they just smiled and said "thats not our department, do what you gotta do man" it was pretty funny.

The towers are all but fully automated and doesn't really need full time man power like they used to. They offered to clean up Farmington but the Forest Service said NO. What the Hell?

Whats up Drape?

Wud up buddy. Hope to see ya on the white stuff soon.

haha maybe i should change out my wardrobe a little bit :) What trails did you take up there?

she was shooting my 1911 .45. Preferred that over the XD .40 with the 4" barrel (my concealed weapon). Think i will get her a 1911 9mm to pack around with her.

Does anyone know if we can ride the new pipeline with our sleds? From the looks of it, it could open up some new terrain!

When I lived back in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan that is all we rode in the winter, Pipelines/Powerlines.
I cant see why not in Utah, you are not tearing them up per say like 4 wheeling during the summer.
Rode the new ones up on Monte last year. Saved some gas getting to and from play spots and like you said " Found some new areas". Watchout for the large bolders or logs that may be lurking pushed of to the side but ushally clear in the middle.

We'll meet up for sure.
definitely. i just can't imagine the road really costing 1million to fix.

I thought this as well at first, but if they're going to stabilize the hill from sliding any more, it'll take some engineering, shot crete, etc... I can see just shy of a million.
They put survey pins in a few spots to record any movement but looks like the road is fine, it's just the hillside.

this whole thing would really suck if you owned a cabin back in there.

I know a few guys with cabins up there, they're super pi$$ed, one's going to sell his (this was the last straw). And to top it all off, the cabins association president is a very liberal female judge, so, not much help there.

That's awesome! One time I asked a fish cop up there if it was illegal to take all the short cuts that we take. He indicated that we can ride anywhere as long as we're not tearing up vegetation (sufficient snow) and it wasn't private property. So I say, why not?

Talked with a buddy in the forest service tonight. It's just as hard for him to get a straight answer as well. (FS doesn't really know)

The road will stay closed until fixed (obviously). They don't know how the FAA are going to acess the towers this winter. The FAA did get some money together to fix the road, but the design is waiting on one person's desk, who was overloaded with Fire stuff this summer and fall. Will this be fixed next year? Nobody knows.

The farm gate at the very bottom of the canyon by the pond was put there by Farmington City, cause the FS gate is closed at the bridge with no turn around. Even the FS was like "what the he!l?"

He said the best thing for us to do is contact our senators and congressmen, nothing gets them to move faster than when a senators aide calls up and requests something be done on behalf of the senator.

When talking to the senator, please take the time to express your concern over the HUGE budget cuts to the FS. They're losing an insane amount of their budget and this is really where the problem is. Remember when there was quite a few different national forests in Utah? Ashley, Wasatch, Cache, Manti La Sal, etc.. It's now pretty much one, they have slowly combined them all, but haven't kept the man power. My buddy is over the hydrology dept. and his area covers the entire west, clear over to the Dakota's. They're spread so thin they CAN'T manage it. It will only get worse, they are slowly caving to the very well funded and organized enviromentalists because they can't afford not to. We are going to see a lot more roads closed in the future because they can't afford to manage them, so it will be easier to just close them.

Sorry this is so long, just trying to get the info out there. If anybody knows anything else, please post it.

A quick google search will get you our congress and senate's phone #'s.
He said start with Hatch, like him or not, he has a lot of pull with the FS, I think his aides are in the same building as the FS in Salt Lake.

Please call. It's not just about Farmington, it's all our riding areas in the future.
