Farmington caynon road open yet?

I ride my bike up the pavement quite often. I was there 2 mornings ago and they now have 2 gates and both are shut saying the canyon is closed due to hazardous roadways.

STILL CLOSED : road washed out/slipped on the lower switchbacks. They have not repaired it yet to my knowledge and I'm not sure if they are in the process of repairing it. We went up there once and there was only about a foot path left of the road where it washed out.

I know the FAA guys were getting flown to the towers when the snow was blocking the road above the ponds on BTFL peak. I've since seen them driving from the BTFL side all the way over in the early AM. Long drive to work, dusty sucker too with all the pipeline construction traffic on the BTFL side.

Well that sucks but I guess they can't fix everything without taxes being even higher.

Farmington Canyon

Bountiful is the only way to get to Farmington canyon. The News reported the other night that Farmington Canyon was one of the last that will be repaired from this springs high run off. It isn't scheduled for repair until spring of 2012 according to channel 5.

You would think it would be one of the first with the towers up there and all. How will they access the towers during the winter?

I can show you the way, just bring a pro rmk for payment (any color I'm not picky) and I'll gladly take you. Also bring avy gear (always) and lots and lots of courage. I'm pretty sure we can make it, eventually!!!

Farmington Canyon mess...

That will be easy to cross on a sled. The Gestapo probably won't allow it.

Yep, same place has slid 5 or 6 times over the last 30 years. There are natural springs right there so in the really wet years that spot doesn't stand a chance.

Forest Service is claiming around 1 million bucks to fix it. They're engineering it this winter and bidding out next summer. Hopefully it'll be fixed end of next summer but in all reality it will be closed the next 2 winters.

I've offered to clean it up with my equipment in trade for a key to the gate, but they don't agree with how great of an idea that is.:face-icon-small-ton wtf?

Bountiful will see a lot of extra pressure this year, so please please police yourselves and help educate others when you see them being stupid. They've spent quite a bit of time and money on that road which is nice to see, but there is still a gate at the bottom that was supposed to be removed after they fixed the road where it slid.

are you saying the new gate at the bounitful parking lot will be open all winter? Ive got a hunch that its gonna get closed with the first major snowfall... curious to see if they plow all the way to the towers all winter... Cant see how they would keep the road open above the campgrounds, its steep and in the middle of 3 major slide paths...

I would bet the gate at Buckland is staying and will be closed and locked after 1st major snow storm. They also put a gate at the 'B'. Is that one gone?

PS Phatty, were you shooting pistols up Btfl on Saturday???

gate @ the "B" is still there. would really suck if they closed that one.

i am also curious how they are going to get people to the towers. heli? seems expensive.

Sure was! Took the wifey and some friends up to shoot some pumpkins and stuff. First time ever shooting a gun for her. She took down 4 cans in 9 shots at 7 yards... not too shabby. :boxing:

The gate at the B is still there... lucky for us it opens down hill... be really easy to hook a chain to it and pop it open... (did i say that out loud?). Im still trying to figure out the purpose of the chainlink fence on the first corner?

Heli seems cheaper than plowing 16 miles of ridge top all winter long? I dunno though...?
