Farmington Canyon

rode farmington new years eve, awsome powder. spent a lot of time getting unstuck. Not much of a base in many areas. No sign of avalanche on the high faces, so we stayed off them, there was plenty of fresh powder in the flats and all the way up to make it a fun challanging ride just to get up to the top. I wouldn't get on the steep faces like avalanche bowl or tree bowl until there is some sign of slides. sure they are just waiting to be triggered. Be careful and pray for snow. And whats up with all the crazy people going for a drive up the canyon for the heck of it. they just cause problems for the rest of us

Rode Farmington today!

Had a great time, did not see any avalanches however something just did not feel right yet so did not try anything to extreme.

Made some great climbs but was very careful about it.

Rode throught the trees had a great time, it was really a great ride.

What is the best way to get to the Farmington sled zone from park city? Is it easy to find?

Only two ways to Farmington, that make sense anyway...

Trailer to Farmington and pull up the canyon. Steep, winding road to the top from the East side.

Or, from the Morgan/Peterson (West) side, but a lot of private property makes it difficult.

Ok cool. I would be getting off the 15 in farmington. What is the best way to get to the canyon?

exit by lagoon and head north on 1st east it turns into skyline drive and just take it all the way up to the parking at the top... bring chains, have a 4x4, shovels and tow rope. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING LARGER THAN A 2 PLACE TRAILER UP THERE...

dont go if you dont have a beacon or know how to use it, also do not go if you dont know anything about checking avy conditions...

Farmington Closed???

Has anyone been up Farmington and seen area closed signs of the back side (east side)? I think the Division of Wildlife shut it down, but I'm not sure. I was up there and was getting ready to drop off the east side from the top and saw an area closed sign with orange paint around it. Any info would be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

Don't have a ton of info. I do know 2 interesting bits of info though. There is a CWMU that was instituted this year on the east side from the top of the ridge down to morgan. I also know that Diamond Peak Heli Skiing has leased the ground for skiing. So technically it is private...wonder how that would be enforced personally but that's what I know.

yep its all private property that way and reserved for heli skiing... dont track up there slopes or the rich bastage will find a way to shut the whole mountain down... just wait till spring when they arent skiing anymore and then you can go track it up, if your not afraid of a trespassing ticket

Went up farmington jan 23rd. Very nice day a foot of light powder.. could have used another 2 feet but fun none the less..... Even helped to find a friend for someone that lost his friend. (He ended up going back to the truck! thank goodness!)

Who has been up Farmington since Tues. 29th?

What is it like up there?

At the lower Snotel site 6770' there is 20" of new snow, I would image much more than that at the higher 8000' foot site which is basically out of order right now.

I would expect more than 2' of new snow up there in the last 48 hours and would not be surprised to find out it is more like 3'!!

Love to hear from someone that has been up.

Farminton Deep Powder!!

Farmington was awesome today! there was plenty of deep snow in the low country and way more in the high country.

It was one of those days you do not soon forget!

Farmington Looks Like it got Hammered!!!

Anybody been up farmington Tuesday the 5th of Feb or since?

It looks like it really got the snow from down here!!

Farmington was off the hook yesterday!
Blue skies and good, not great snow.
There was at least a foot or so of pow, especially in the trees, but a lot of it was wind blown.
Depending on where on the hill you climbed, you could be in the pow, or harpack... Could climb anything.
There were a couple of icy spots, but 80% was really good snow.
Rode mostly to the noth towards peterson... Even dropped into the west side of east layton... Pretty steep climb getting back to the top.
No sleds broke, had a great time... Later in the day the hills set up and you could climb as high as you dared.
Best day (weather wise) I have had all year.

Headed up today... Short notice, but if anyone wants to meet up, I will be at my computer for the next hour.

i hate you! i am looking out my office window right now at farmington peak, beautiful blue skies and warm! take some pics!

I may take some pics, but my only PC is at work, so I wouldn't be able to post them.
Let me know if you would like to meet up and go another time.
I have friends who are land owners, so we park on the peterson side.
Beats the hell out of driving up farmington canyon.

Epic day... sun, powder, good times!
No tracks, about a foot of heavy powder on the peterson side... Closer to the towers the snow was fluffy and deep.
Could almost climb anything, but just enough pow to cusion you and slow you down.
Ran into corey malan riding Rich Pauls dragon... SLP single pipe... I think it is the long track model, didn't look close enough... Ran real good... Came close to my 1000sp on the deep powder hills with no run, but I was still highmarking by a good 10 yards, as well as getting there a lot quicker... On the more set up hills, my 1000 would eat its lunch.
Still a pretty impressive sled, none the less... Mine is bone stock and a 153... I have no doubt a 162 1000 would really put the hurt on a dragon.
Coreys buddy was probably a little over his head in this area... I missed the first carnage, but he "thought" he had a runout area, ended up bailing off of a cliff "10 feet"... Luckily missed the rocks and was not hurt... Corey stoped the sled before it hit the trees, and all it did was take the windshield off, and slightly bent the rear edge of the tunnel and snowflap in.
Then at the end of the day corey told him to climb another hill, turned out too slow, rolled his sled over a small tree, and about 15 more rolls till it stoped... Luckily it did, because the hood was starting to open.
This time it cracked the windshield, but again, no major damage.

I would love to meet one of the land owners that would give permission to go up on the Peterson side.

Is there any hope?

A few years ago I was up there riding my 925 by myself and came across a group and one of them scratched his phone number where you put your feet but I no longert have that machine and did not take the time to write it down else where.
