HCM-Hells Canyon Marine 20'

09 Hells Canyon Marine 20' with a 6.0 liter supercharged V8 with a Hamilton 212 pump.

I believe Toby Ashley was the guy running the HCM. Don't know much more about the other boat. But the HCM is a rocket ship!

Here is a link to the HCM Web site.

Check out the videos in the video section of this web site. Look at the 2009 video section. North Fork of the Clearwater. Another wild run.

Beau Value is in the green Miller Marine boat. 2 guys that work at Franklin Building Supply in McCall, Idaho used to own that boat. I have a jet boat, but that is some crazy stuff. More money than brains.

More money than brains.

That pretty much sums up what I was thinking too. Cool vid though. Must be nice to have enough coin to not be worried about wadding up a $70,000 boat on the rocks...

I want to do it, I spend a lot of time on the Snake and Salmon but never thought of running the SF. VERY VERY cool vid and some good driving. This gets me jacked I've got a permit for the 24th of June over on the Snake and this vid gets me even more stoked. Thanks for sharing!!!

That is Flippin awesome! It reminds me of amnaha (sorry bout spelling) on the snake river, just skinner. AWESOME VIDEO!

Ahhhhh...C'mon...more money than brains? That is a cop-out...those guys have some serious skills driving the jet boats. Risking life on that chit for sure. Yeah, they might wad it up, but have any of you that are saying this ever swam that chit? It'll beat you up if you aren't pinned in the boat. I vote for some serious balls and brains on this one...they knew how and where to hit every rapid. I vote skills and balls.

Jim your exactly right, believe me the drivers of those boats knew what they were doing, risky yes but I bet they scouted out every rapid before they attempted the run. I know that is what I do before running a rapid I've not attempted before. It's no different than sledders scouting out a chute before attempting to climb them.:beer;:beer; to those guys!!

Awesome Vid

I used to think I ran some pretty narly water in my Willie Predator. Now I see that both my boat and the driver are lacking the Testicular Fortitude that those guys carry. Those guys are awesome. I lived in Payette and Riggns and have seen those rivers when they are rippin', hats off to them!
Crap, I guess that makes me a whimp.

Thanks for sharing IDAHDOO. Just goes to show how many extreme activities we have @ our disposal. The Captain rocked that, yourself must be a Top Shelf Navigator,to rule that passage, wish I was on your sled also Captain behind you did well.Enjoy the Northwest always.any season, Cheers Red:beer; Dog.

Back Down the river?

Do you pilot the boat back down or does the truck meet you upstream?

Agreed that upward journey took skill!

If you go up you have to come back down. Not many boat ramps on that river esp up where they were.

return

I have been wondering about the return myself. I have only run a few times and the down river part is spookier than the up. either you float threw like a raft or under power at a 100 miles an hour.
So did they find a ramp to pull them out up there or go back? if they went back wheres the footage of that. julio

Footage of Return Down

Yes, I would really like to see that!

Hey guys,
Ok.. I was NOT in nor piloting these boats. Just the messenger. We float it all the time in a 14' Maravia Williwaw I RAFT. I would love to go along with this crew. They looked to have support from the road that follows the river from some of the camara shots they had. You WOULD NOT DO THIS without proper knowledge of this river. They knew what they were doing.
There is no boat ramp any where along the way of their route except where they put in.

Im thinking these guys went about 20 miles up river and hit close to ELEVEN CLASS III RAPIDS AND 8 CLASS IV !! IN BIG WATER.

Heres some great info..

It's very similar to hillclimbing. When it's boney the return trip is often much nastier then the climb itself! Low water is way more difficult to drop then what they were in...guessing that is why you are seeing any of it in the vid (it probably looks boring). Those guys obviously have serious skills, experience, and exceptional equipment. That said irregardless of the proximity of the road and additional support you go swimming prepped like they were (in jeans and t's you get about 30 seconds in the water where you would be able to participate in your own rescue) and you have a very very low likelihood of survival. Average of three rescues per boat I think it's safe to speculate at least one fatality in the event of a screw up. Having swam that river in similar flows to what we see on the vid that really is a death defying feat and totally awesome! (makes the hair on my redneck stand straight up!)

Rumor used to say that J Scott drove his boat into similar waters back in the old world championship of jet boating days. Also a few have been up and down it on personal watercraft but in more summerish times and flows.

These guys are obviously skilled. I never said they weren’t. I don’t doubt that they scouted the stretch that they intended to run and deemed it passable by their standards. I’ve never run that kind of water in anything and I’d pass on a swim for sure. Maybe if I had their experience and deep pockets I’d try it, I do enjoy a good adrenalin rush just as much as the next guy. I’m still waiting for my lottery numbers to come up and/or to be adopted by the Simplots…
