Explorers On Global Warming Expedition Stranded in North Pole by Cold Weather

Is the earth getting warmer?
Or cource. If it wasn't, we would still be in an ice age.
Set the way back machine for 8 years ago.
Al Gore was telling the world that if we didn't take drastic action NOW, by 2010 it would be too late. According to some of the speaches Al gave, the world temps would continue to rise at an alarming rate.

Oops.

The world temps have dropped since 98. Pretty much every year since 2001.
Global ice have reformed back to levels not seen since 1987.
Countries such as Russia, Japan, Australia have all abandoned the man made global warming theries and have taking the stance of global warming/cooling patterns. Just like Bush did.

Has man made a difference, of cource. It would be arrogant to say otherwise. That being said, do I think we have had ENOUGH of an impact to change world weather and temps. Not even close.

Co2 levels have been proven to be as much as 5 times higher than they are right now. During the middle ages it has been shown the earths surface temps were as much as 2 degrees warming than they are right now.

50% of americans no longer believe the man made global warming theory. They as other countries now believe, say it is and always was a media driven hype machine to allow enviromentalist to dictate enviromental issues.

global warming caused by man is a complete lie , like how fawkin retarded can people actualy be ??????/..ice ages are a part of the cycle ..and that sall there is to that ...brain up ,,stock up and migrate if nesecary...other than that ...don't be dumb

I don't think there was ever debate that the earth naturally cools and warms. But the rate at which it does is/was of concern.

Ollie where are you getting your information? It is widely know that temperatures have risen. 2005 alone was the warmest on record, and the 8 warmest years have all occurred since 1998.

You'd have to pretty spaced out to not at least think it's possible that humans are escalating this rate. I'm not in one way saying I agree or disagree with the theory, but I think it's entirely plausible that were having negative effects on the climate of our planet.

And is it all that bad, the type of changes belief in this "myth" causes? Is it really bad that more people consider carpooling? Or automakers are strongly encouraged to create higher efficiency of their automobiles? Or how about looking for alternate renewable sources of energy? Could someone please tell me what's so bad about this that makes it so much better to fund other countries that if given the opportunity would love to blow up north america?

It's bad, because the by-product of this thinking is...closures of snowmobiling areas, banning of 2-strokes, Wilderness areas, killing PWC's, banning fossil fuels, and making criminals out of law abiding citizens, etc......Laws get passed and never repealed. I don't buy into anything that will force me to do what I do not want. For God's sake we are supposed to be free and responsible for our actions. I truly don't think that the few snowmobiles that operate in limited area, in few months of the year do any harm to anything. I didn't even wear a helmet on the bike, or wear a seatbelt growing up...Effin liberals...Kiss my grits. Oh ya, we (USA) have the largest potential fossil fuel in the world...

Hey Goreite, have you ever heard of cap & trade, carbon tax? That is "what’s so bad”!!! It will drive our already weak economy into the ground. How does $10 a gal for gas sound to ya? The Dems are right, it will force us to use alt energy, but what do you think will happen when we are forced to use expensive energy and everyone else uses cheap energy? (All for something that might be true.) Combine that with our high, (going to be higher,) taxes we will become a second rate country. If your goal is to not buy oil from the mid east, then DRILL HERE, build nukes, and fast track the use of CNG.

OK you guys have some valid points and I 100% understand them.

But at the same time, if things were more in moderation you have to admit that they wouldn't really hurt.

I haven't drank any Gore kool-aid, maybe you just forgot your reading glasses? haha I've stated I don't believe one way or another. But to outright think that it's impossible we've had any effect is a tad bit ignorant in my opinion and selfish in thinking that you couldn't possibly have had any responsibility for it.

It's ok to have your views, but at least be open to the possibility the other side has some things correct as well!

I'm open to the possibility that when my kids throw stones into the pond, they're contributing to Tsunami's and shifting weather patterns. That there is a possibility that the turbulence generated decreases the oxygen production capacity of the pond. There is a possibility that the fish are confused, or get clonked on the head with a rock.

Do you know how many kids skip rocks?!??!! It's epidemic.

Do I run around scaring the entire world about the dangers of rock-skipping?

NO. Because it would be disingenuous to convince people that rock skipping should be the basis for all political policies.

Al Gore never skipped rocks.

One thing I do dissagree with and think really does have an affect on climate change is cloud seeding. Have there been any studies done on the affects of cloud seeding? I would think that by unnaturally getting a cloud to drop it's moisture would have an affect on weather patterns down the line. I do a lot of riding in the Uinta mountains and it seems like we've been getting a lot less snow fall, and the ski resorts who are at the front of the mountian range seem to be getting more and more. Kind of off subject but it's something to think about....

Our ski area had been doing cloud seeding for years.
(dropping bacteria into clouds for snow flakes to form to)

Not much definable success for years - but last year we got 422" of snow at the ski area and 1000" of snow in the back country. The powers that be spent a month debating if they should pull the contract due to nature's triumph over the humans. Politics ruled.

;-)

Do this test to see if it works. The earth's surface is 2/3 rds water.... and most if it is covered by cooler 60 degree average temps, wheather/climate than warm. Lets have someone volunteer to go to your local YMCA, say in North Dakota. Make it fair and find a covered inground pool, sure they all are in ND. Turn off the pool heat and the faclility heat....now jump in and swim around for a month or 100 yrs if you like. Have the wife and kids run around the pool and spray some hair spray around from time to time. Smoke, run your car, a remote control air plane or two, and anything else we use in life. See if you can get it to heat up.

Almost forgot....you'll need to add some plants around.

Let us know how it turns out....

This is even in a closed facility.... not likely to help, but even that's not fair in relation to the entire earth and its current population.

Not realistic I know, but still..... come on, do we believe we can heat the thousands of miles of planet under neath our feet. Guess it could happen. Never thought our country could go bankrupt either.

I still believe global warming is less possible, but heck if they can figure a way to temp control the planet....I vote for year round snow in Colorado & Wyoming please.... Since we can now print and spend a trillion a day without collaterol. Send a few bundles here so I can heat my house.....doesn't feel like warming to me...lol

So you'd be ok starting your truck and snowmobile and leaving you and your family in there with no proper ventilation as well? I mean those exhausts can't really be all the bad for you.....?

Facts are so inconvenient: The sun is responsible for the heat on our planet. In fact, I blame it entirely for the warmth or lack thereof.
You dolts who think we mere humans can cause a substantive change to our climate ought to answer this: If the Sun were to start to burn out, what could we do stop it, or augment its heat? ....... NOTHING!!! And if we can't stop cooling, then we are also incapable of starting warming.
What if the Sun got to hot????.......... What would we do? NOTHING!!! We can't make the Sun burn cooler! It is being controlled by a Force far greater then you or I.
We are SPECTATORS in an event that is so vastly more complex then we are capable of comprehending, that to try to place blame for such an event, as the warming or cooling of our entire planet, on such infinitesimally small forces (like CO2 emissions from cars or hair spray cans, or the burning of some fossil fuel oil) only displays our arrogance and naivete. <<So you'd be ok starting your truck and snowmobile and leaving you and your family in there with no proper ventilation as well? I mean those exhausts can't really be all the bad for you.....?>>

If my garage was the size of the Earth's atmosphere, I suspect I could reliably believe that the small amount of concentrated gasses you are talking about would dissipate to harmless levels. Oh, wait - I DO start my truck and sled outside, with my kids getting into the truck or on the snowmobile. All's well.

I don't think that a few kids skipping stones has filled up the pond, but I'll check.

When it's politically driven it's usually bad for the average folk. I heard the other day that congress wanted to raise the cafe (?) standard on new auto's think that will raise or lower the cost of a new vehicle? a nice blow to an already failing industry (that's a whole other F'n subject though) The real kanundrum (sp?) here is what is the magic number.... 60 mpg, 100 mpg 200mpg does it ever end?. Agencies that have to come up with statistics to stay on the government payroll will say whatever it takes to keep funding, make no mistake about it every step this green movement takes will cost us more and more. You won't have to take my word for it and you won't have to look hard to see it, just like the Kioto treaty why do you think we didn't want to sign on ? would have cost manufacturers ton's o dough resulting in higher price to the consumer.

<<just like the Kioto treaty why do you think we didn't want to sign on ? >>

Moreover, look why the "developing nations" wanted to sign!
Hmm.. impose a tax on USA & Europe, but nothing on China & India? That would provide them a competitive advantage WHILE they continue to impose NO environmental standards and we get socked.

That's one thang that Mr. Bush done good at! (my best Texan accent)

Let's just hope the articulate (?), smoke-riddled, speial-olympic-loving YoBama keeps his historic pen dry on that one.
