Experiences with greenies while sledding!

Why i certainly understand you being upset why not put up some signs that say private property? I been up there playing in the trees only to come upon a cabin that i didn't even know was there. either turned around or made our way around it best we can.
I can honestly say I haven't had any run ins with anyone most times when we see them we wave and they wave back but I'm sure there will come a day :(

I hear yah on that......finding the stray cabin out on the flats......

but we sit in the middle of a heavily populated cabin area (yale creek) and is it to much to ask to stay on the roads... there are plenty of them to get you up above the cabins and that way I wont find tracks across my snow covered propane tank and wood piles....

So do you have a fence and signs posted high enough to be above the snowline? My grandmas cabin in IP was the same way, people used to cut the corner between the garage and cabin (right by the propane tanks) as a shortcut to get to the gas station. Finally strung some twine and signs up in the winter... easy enough to cut down in the summer and got the job done...

I always give skiers and boarders rides if I see them because we almost always bring our boards with us when we go sledding. Never had a problem with greenies until I tell them I have a hybrid snowmobile ( it burns oil and gas). The problems I have are with other sledders and their bad habits for example last weekend I got stuck after jumping a small wind lip on a slope and while I was getting unstuck this idiot rode right above me on a slope that is know to slide and sidehilled it which is the same as cutting a slope. When I told him how much of a idiot he was and if he ever did that to me again I was going to end him he rode out of the bowl for the day. That is the stuff I have problems with.

No......no signs and no fence, I shouldn't have to but maybe I will....

I would hate to come up some weekend and find the remains of some kid smeared on the side of my cabin because he caused the propane tank to explode by riding over it and hitting it with a carbide. I might get sued for removing one more stupid sole from the planet

What Phatty said. You can’t Biotch if its not posted. Same way with hunting. If I am on your land and its not posted to bad. If it is then I will respect it and leave it alone.

Another thing that we have noticed is that people moved some wilderness signs hundreds of yards in on some riding spots. So we reported it and rode to the normal boundaries.

So what your saying is I can unload my sled and ride all up and down your yard and tear the chit out of your wood pile and tear the tops off the small trees in your landscaping because you live in the city and don't have your yard posted?

because that is exactly what is happening and apparantly your all for it....WTF!!!!!! so yah, I can b1tch about it...

How many yards do you see with no trespassing signs on them???? probably not many, but even the tool with the lowest IQ can figure out you shouldn't be riding there!

You also may be right about trespassing laws in montana, but I can promise you that if you get caught hunting on private land in some states, posted or not, you can be arrested!!!! It is the trespassers responisibility to know where they are and landowners are not required to post...

How bout asking for permission to ride on private property first, and then the owner could tell you he has a couple clothes lines up to watch out for!

what happened to asking for permission? I find tracks all the time around and behind our cabin in island park and to be honest, it pisses me off!!

I know Spomey, he is pretty respectful. In reality, you want him riding around your cabin. If he saw a window broken out or something amiss, he would probably repair it for you.

I live 5 miles form civilization and i do have it completely fenced off with gates and a sign that says no trespassing. Granted we never get enough snow to really ride where my house is but if we did i would probably have jumps and stuff built up with a bigger fence. :face-icon-small-sho

Honestly it’s not much work to walk around your property with an aluminum ladder putting up orange boards on trees 8 feet up. Its really not and if you are so upset about it you should do that. I do know my way around very well but every once in a while a guy trespasses on accident and if its not marked, sorry i don't care. Granted i wouldn't ride right by some ones house. I am talking about when you are in the back country riding and you just kind of stumble upon a cabin and you find out you have been destroying someone’s back yard.

If its that big of deal to you, you need to put up signs. I was arrested last year for trapping on private property in the back country and I was not fined or anything. I was simply told not to go there and they told the guy he needs signs. He had just bought the property and the owner before him didn’t care if people hunted on it. They even let me keep my fox. :p

Maybe the laws are different for you and I but you should have your property fenced. Most people around hear have tall 6 feet fence to le people know. Others don’t care if you ride on their land and some people are nice enough to drop fence wires to save lives.

To anyone reading this~ if you are a land owner and you drop your fences at winter time for snowmobilers, I APPLAUDE YOU! Thank you very much, you are saving lives. ;):beer;:beer;:beer;

Ask anyone on hear who has ever rode up Rock Creek Montana. Every land owner up there has their land posted and fenced off. Half the people up there are greenie *** holes trying to shut us down and the other half (Richard Childress Included) are all for the sport.

"To Weak to Walk"

On the old forum I remember a guy who had a note left on his pickup at the trailhead. That note inspired the title of his next snowmobiling film, "To weak to walk!"

Score one for the good guys!

My best friend in High school and I used to ride to a gravel pit on the top of this hill in the BLM. I rode to the pit on a BLM road. He had to ride up a powerline right of way road. The power line road went down the back side of a bunch of 5 acre lots. All the houses were on the other end of the lots and they were all fenced with split rail fence. He rode a RM125 and he could really ride. He was being recruited by suzuki and fast tracked to a 125 sponsorship. Well, one day we met at the pit and rode. Right before dark we said goodbye and headed home. I went to my house and he rode down the powerline road. When I got to school the next morning I got taken to the principals office and was told that my buddy was dead. It seems that one of the home owners didnt like the dust he put up so they put a wire accross the road. My buddy hit it neck high doing 70mph they said. It cut his head clean off..... Needless to say I dont like wires in riding areas.....

I also have a buddy who had slowed down going past a skiier and the idiot hit my freind with his ski pole.. Needless to say he prettty much ended up eating it the aluminum pole..
What are people thinking? I mean, I dont think I would pick a fight with someone wearing battle armour!! Helmet tek vest heavy gloves... I guess Nobody ever accused some people of being smart!!!!

Dude that’s harsh. I am very sorry for you. What a complete waist of a human being. I have also seen what happens when people hit wires. Seen the after math of a drunken mother of a 5 year old riding way to fast at night on the side of a trail that got decapitated by a barb wire fence. The wire hit the hood of the Polaris indy and went right up over the windshield and was at the perfect height to get caught under her chin.

What happened to who put the wire up? Remember the thread asking about why people carry firearms riding? That’s why there is one in my pack.

I do understand what is being said above. I live near Seattle. Here's the problem, they(the Greenies) are winning. We as sledder's, ATV, and dirtbike riders always have an excuse why we don't go to the meetings and stand up for our rights. As said above, the ones at the meetings are the ones that we need to be afraid of. Whether it's just you, your family, or your friends it starts with a few at the meetings and then it will snowball. We need to fight for our rights as hard as they fight to take them away. Being a member of SAWS or Blue Ribbon is a start. No trespassing signs are nice but common sense is nicer. Stay away from the cabins.
