I am looking to put a new muffler on my Nytro for this year. I wanted some opinions about the different mufflers out there right now. I will be keeping the stock header. I am interested in ease of installation also. I am leaning toward the Yoshimura RS3 right now because I like the sound. Weight savings would be interesting to see also.

Is this going to FIT?

I have a Skinz Ultra Q for sale if you are at all interested. I only ran it one year and then i put a turbo on. If you are interested i will give you a good deal

I think it should fit. There are quite a few you tube videos with this pipe. Chances are that it won't fit with the stock rear shroud in place. From what I have seen it would stick out the back a little, but it's a good looking unit so I am alright with that.

As far as sound goes the stock exhaust just sounds weak on this thing and I want something with a little better sound. I don't want something deafening but a little more sound would be good.

One thing I like about the yoshi also is that it only weighs about five pounds. I know MPI has on their website that the stock muffler is around fifteen so that would be a good weight loss.

They don't actually make a pipe for sleds. The pipe I would be using is designed for bikes. They do sound different I think mainly because it is more of a big bore than most of the bikes. I bet an Apex would sound awesome.

I have the Super Q under tunnel exhaust on mine.
While it works great, its a little louder than I like.
At the end of the day, after 6+ hours riding, I wish I would have remembers to put in ear plugs.

The tone of the sound is great, its just a bit louder than my ears like.

the quietest one available would be my suggestion
You have the stock muffler correct? I put a Jardine pignose (dual outlet) undertunnel on mine, and it is / was pretty loud. I put a hot dogger on it, and put the exhaust outlets out each side of the tunnel, and it was still pretty loud. I then reduced the outlets to 1" for each of them (1 exit per side). While it got quieter it is still too loud IMO.

I also dislike the fact that most motorcycle exhausts rely on packing, and that just doesn't last on snowmobiles it seems.

I have been looking at stock motorcycles for a replacement for the Jardine. Stock exhausts usually use baffles and the like, and they are much much quieter.

If I am going to be slow, might as well be silent too.. ha ha

I've got the full AAEN exhaust on mine and let me tell you what...the sucker is LOUD! With the stock exhaust you could drive up and park next to a deer and it wouldn't notice... I would say most two strokes with a modified exhaust are still louder than mine but it's deceiving when it points out of the back of the sled instead of directional into the snow. I know I'm making more power because I had to throw a ton of weight into my primary to keep the rpm's in check.

I voted for the yoshi pipe, the youtube videos sound slick and you can get one in Carbon Fiber that should be REALLY light. Plus you check around on Ebay enough you should be able to find a used one pretty easily.

Excell is hands down the best exhaust. Factory quality fit and finish. My apex exhaust came with a second insert to keep the noise down. Also got an excell setup on a nytro.

Which exhaust do you have for you Apex? I'm looking at the two Excell's for mine, but I'm torn between the undertunnel and the above tunnel one, but I don't want it really loud.

Many guys are having problems with the undertunnel excel exhaust on the apex. There is a thread on Ty about it.The motor is choking out.

Im keeping mine stock ive already been down this road. had a bunch of stuff done to my utv including dual exhaust the power was awesome but when your scaring the fish out of the streams its a little to much. hope the s/c gives me the power i need... Is there a quite light one?

I already got one noise ticket back home.
Last year on my apex I ran a stock 05 r1 muffler on my apex. There titanium so there real light. It sounded stock levels but realy throaty.Sounded just like a r1.
Here's the link to Hartman that supposed to be only 1-2 decibal more.

Quick answer, no. Long answer, take a look and try and find a suitable stock motorcycle muffler. Buell, BMW, Ducate... these bikes have some different types of mufflers that might work for our situation.

my under tunnell exhaust experiment on my nytro resulted in a really loud and annoying exhaust note. It would resonate in the tunnell and drive me crazy and it was just plain loud. power increase was very minimal even with an excell header. Save your money and ears and skip the under tunnell exhaust. I took mine off after one ride and put it back to stock. This is not a 2 stroke here people, dont kid yourself you are NOT going to make a bunch of power by throwing some kind of loud exhaust on your nytro. Put the money toward a supercharger or turbo for real power. For supercharger guys the stock exhaust flows just fine even with the supercharger and its quiet! if you want a bit more exhaust note i think the skinz ultra q muffler is a good choice and it wont require ear plugs. its a little lighter too. I believe this is the muffler that Hartman sells. would be good choice with supercharger too.

the header will get you a few hp for non boosted sleds but just putting on the muffler alone will not make any more power despite what muffler makers are claiming. As for the header, the AAEN header is WAY thicker and beefier than the excell. the excell is paper thin stainless steel. If you are not going to boost it and want to spend money on exhaust my suggestion would be the AAEN header and the skinz ultra q muffler in stock above tunnell configuration.

Any one ever try Hartmans exhaust. It says on his site it's only 1-2 decibals louder.

i believe this muffler that hartman is selling is the skinz ultra q. This is probably the only muffler that will still keep the nytro relatively quiet and save weight.

You mentioned that you wanted to keep your stock header. So, if you are just changing the muffler for looks, weight, and sound, then go for it, but don't expect any performance change. So, I am basically repeating paulharris' comments. I have spent well over $1000 on different exhaust changes including the Excell header and muffler kit. This is advetrised to add about 8 HP and I can honestly tell you that I did notice a difference especially in throttle response. It is quite a bit loader than stock. Next I wanted to change this out to an under tunnel exhaust, so I bought and Excell header for a Vector and a 2" glass pack muffler. It sounded great IMO but would get choked out in deep snow. Same increase in performance. Now I have an MCX turbo and wish I would have done this right from the start.

One of my buddies has a new in box Excell exhaust system that he would sell. PM me if you want details.
