Ever seen this??? Sparkplug gap closed?

Is there any truth too: BR9-ECS plugs help with controlling detonation?
Verses the BR9-ES’s
I thought they were just a pre-gapped plug only nothing more?

Not really, it maintains it's heat range better in higher combustion temp's, they do tend to foul easier though

I can't believe how many people have seen that then rode on it after seeing it. Let me see me spark plug has been mashed in, that must mean something is hitting it. Lets keep driving maybe I can take out my cylinders and get a brand new motor. WHOOPIE!:face-icon-small-con

Looks like little to no wash according to your last pic...

That is exactly what I thought. What are you jetted at? I ran 500PTO and 490 in the mag(6000-9000FT). Needle in the 4th. Had the SLP kit. I had a bit more wash. I am sure what you had was Detonation. Poor fuel or just flat out jetted a tad on the lean side would do it. Even a combination of the two.

What are the numbers on the SLP head? I can compare them. What is the lowest elevation you ever ride?

Honestly, I've had ti happen before, and no evidence of any damage. Regapped and went riding, never any issues. Some detonation i guess?

I would run the ECS plugs, Doo calls for that anyway to help reduce det when they first changed plug spec in 2001 for the 800 I believe it was... cheapest I found was at o'reilly or napa.

is this the oldest thread ever?

Had this happen on my first sled, 87 indy 400 quite a few years ago on the first ride of the year. Had just bought the sled a couple months before and was told it was fresh off a rebuild. It ran good when we loaded it up then, but when we went to ride a month or two later it would barely move. Changed the plugs and off we went no problems? Didnt hear any detonation of course ive never heard what detonation sounds like on a 2 stroke and wouldnt have had any idea what that meant then so who knows.

My spark plugs (RN57YCC) are just a little long for my portable spark plug caddy (holds 2), and when I close it up it will bend the electrodes closed. Just a thought.
