Ethanol plug... What does it do?

I

I think that the ethanol plug on the PRO adds fuel through out the RPM band.

But what else does it do? Is it a resistor to interfere with pipe temp to trick the ECU to think the motor is running cooler?

Also does it retard timing? Or does the non ethanol plug add timing?

If I could get factual info that would be great.

I am liking the poweraddiction heads and the SLP pipe also and would like to try them.
I was wondering if you ran the SLP pipe, stock head and just used the ethanol plug to richen it up rather than the PCV how that would work?

I ride 5-6000 ft most of the time and I run non ethanol plug..... 94 octane chevron non ethanol fuel.

What about running 13.1 head with SLP pipe and ethanol plug with 94 chevron fuel and no PCV?

the Eth.. plug Adds 5% Fuel..

If useing PCV used the eth.. plug.. then use the map.. to take fuel back off.. and add fuel in the mid range

So thats all the ethanol plug does is add 5% fuel?

Why couldn't a person just install the SLP pipe and no pcv...... and run non ethanol 94 octane fuel..... with the ethanol plug?

Because people in Colorado and other places can't get non-ethanol fuel. However, I run my Pro with the non-eth plug because the elevation is high enough I haven't seen a problem.

I was told at on point that timing was retarded as well (with the ethanol plug). Does anyone know for sure?

You would be burning it down..

they are adding fuel in the middle with the SLP pipe

Well there are some that are running head and SLP pipe with no pcv and haven't had any problems in 150 miles. (at 4000 ft)

I just thought that if the ethanol plug adds 5% fuel that...... it would be enough fuel for the pipe running non ethanol fuel at 6000 ft.

It's cutting edge Polaris technology that allows their 800s to make 20 horsepower less than the competition. :face-icon-small-con Seriously though, are Cat and Doo not affected by ethanol?

Every motor is effected by ethanol. It is an alcohol that has a tendency to attract water molecules (not good). Ethanol is also hard on the components that make up your fuel system. That's why several cars are now E85 compliant (although that is 85% vs 10%). I hate to say it, but I think the Polaris motor was dialed back a tad to make sure it was reliable. Look at the most recent DynoTech article on hoping up the CFI2 800. That thing is pumping out 160+ HP by shimming the mono-jug and adjusting timing. Polaris has to know that is possible, but probably wants to have a few years of reliability. It just so happens to be working out really well. The only ones complaining about the Pro's HP are those that don't own them.

How dangerous would it be to run at 1000' on E10 93 Octane without the Ethanol Plug? Not worth the risk?

I have done it..

Just warm it up..

So that the pipe is hot before taking off.. then u shouldn't have a issue with deto!

Sounds like it's worth a try at least. Not worth blowing it up over, though, so I will need to be careful.

yea.. just take it easy.. to get up to temp.. then.. Rip it!.

If it Deto's..

But the ETH Plug back in it..

Mine runs like poop if I run the 10 percent ethanol plug. Switch to non ethanol and it runs like a champ. I tune my supercharged truck and the less fuel the higher the egt's with boost stoich is around 11.8. I would guess these would be in the 12 ish range. Can someone with some tuning experience please chime in. I don't understand how less fuel with the 10% ethanol is better.

Uh well now I'm confused to be honest. Ethanol burns at 9:1, and Gasoline is 14.7:1. So I guess you are basically getting too much air when burning Ethanol and that is what causes you to burn down? Which would mean that you need to be richer with the Ethanol...

Has anyone tried the SLP pipe with ethanol plug...... but is running non ethanol fuel?

Without the PCV.

IceCap did you do the power addiction head?

Did more testing at 3800 start up 28* trail up to a riding area at 5500 to 6800 temp up to 35*. The plan was to run the eth plug if it wouldn't pull clean throughout at this low alt and then switch to the non eth plug at alt. Never had to....just kept busy on the trail in and by the time we got to 4500ft were it opened up enough that I could hog on it the thing ran DEAD CLEAN CLEAR THROUGH THE POWER BAND. This is our low alt test grounds to go with my 5500 to 8200 test previously ran.

We tested over and over and over on a 1000ft gradual loaded pull in firm conditions. INSTANT ON and is a holeshot demon now (does a stock pro pack the skis at rock solid traction with a perfect fox suspension package?...NO IT DOESN'T)....pulling nicely clear to 8250 with 64 grams EPI/factory polaris 115 belt with 850 documented miles NO VENTING just stock. Absolutely impressive completely through power band...VERY VERY FAST for bone stock Polaris factory exhaust and engine porting. The only modification is the head and some really really good clutching.

At 6200ft on an approx 1500ft moderately steep uphill pull in heavy wet untracked snow. Absolutely to the bar for well over 30 seconds never a hesitation of hiccup pulling all the way out. When it was stock it would only pull 7900 max on 62 grams same hill similar conditions of load and it would lay down randomly. Also you cover the ground in about 20% less time. (didn't have my digatron trap setup on this test so that is an estimate)

NO BS (you can ask the guy with the really strong Carl's 860 that was taking a whooping as my test comparison victim)...this is a must do mod for guys who want back their instant on (old carb'd days of two stroke) throttle response and a solid no bog runner on your PRO. IT'S NIKE BABY....JUST DO IT

two quotes from the two separate testers that have not ridden this sled.
"THAT is super FAST!"
"WOW this sled runs GOOD!"

one rode an 860 all day and one was on my very good running iq raw 800 with single pipe setup (it rips too)

my response...YUP smile

91 pump gas non eth plug
Power Addiction 13.6 Head (435-881-6665)
Carl's PRO clutching (208-853-5550)

How does it get any easier then that?

Thanks for the update Fbomb..... No I haven't done the head yet.

I am still trying to decide on what I want to do and how far am I going to go??

Are you thinking of trying the SLP pipe setup with your PRO? (with the 13.6 head)

I would like to know how that goes..... I only heard of one that has that setup and he claims the increase in performance was huge.

He ran the head and stock pipe for awhile then put on the SLP pipe and that was when he expierenced the huge performance increase.

With the amount it costs to do head, pipe and porting..... I may go with the turbo.

Nope I have not ran with, against, or even seen the SLP single in action on a PRO. Closest thing to an SLP anything was Dustin P resting his foot on my sled at Jackson. brap brap (maybe that did make it faster...running pretty good since! tee hee)
