Ethanol mode vs non ethanol?

So if running non eth gas and sled is stock...set to non eth mode? Or eth mode?

I stand corrected. Geez, where was my brain that day!? Just goes to show, never trust the internet. You're right, ethanol burns cooler and has a lot less BTUs per gallon of gas. Now to completely contradict, but correct, myself. Ethanol doesn't like to burn, especially in cold weather. Thus, the reason black Z mentioned E85 goes to E70 in the cold states. So, the ethanol mode richens the fuel to get a consistent burn. Otherwise the inconsistent burn will cause detonation issues. Now I'm off to get more coffee...

We've all had those days. I did a ton of ethanol research in college for the EPA and the state of MN, also did all of the tuning for our E85 powered Formula SAE car.

If running ethanol on ethanol setting or running non-eth on non-eth setting they perform about the same. For a performance gain run on non-eth setting with eth fuel, you'll gain about 100 rpm's and your sled will not burn down or detonate. I know several guys running starting line singles on non-eth setting with eth-fuel with thousands of miles and no motor issues. It appears the axys is mapped extremely fat. In the spring in + 50 degree temps you have to run them that way or your sled will run like a turd.

So, if running on the ethanol mode makes the mixture 3% richer, do you notice a significant drop in mileage? Out in the wilderness, it's good to mind your fuel consumption.

To make the math easy, let's assume you have 10 gallons to start the day. 3% of 1280 oz is 38.4 oz, or .3 gallons. Negligible difference

If the Pipe/can are the only changes from stock you would never want or need to run 100 octane. More octane doesnt make more power, a little extra for insurance is fine, but your way past that with 100.

91 octane is all you need with that pipe.

100 octane is the only non-ethanol fuel in our area
