The road/trail from Landmark Ranger Station to Deadwood Summit has experienced a large wind event. This resulted in many trees that have blown over and are blocking the road. It is impossible to ride the road/and it will be impossible to groom this route unless the trees are cut out first.

TELL EVERY SNOWMACHINE RIDER YOU KNOW TO SHOW UP AT LANDMARK THIS SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15TH AT 10AM FOR ONE HUGE EFFORT TO CUT OUT THE ROAD. YOU CAN DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO LANDMARK AS THE ROAD IS PLOWED, BUT CHAINS ARE ADVISED. THIS JOB IS SOOOOO BIG, WE CANNOT HAVE TOO MANY SHOW UP!

BRING YOUR SLED, CHAINSAW, WORK GLOVES AND LUNCH.

Lol, Dune, that was my first thought also! But cannot fit much in the back of an Excursion, so didn't ask. :)

DM I hosed myself and moved here too late in the year to get a firewood permit. And have a brand new chainsaw that is begging to be used. And I would love to meet some people and work on making a trail usable. And I could use a day out of the house...Doing something productive. If I had a trailer I would drag some to your place. But just a pickup

The trees on the road are between landmark and deadwood summit which has about 4 feet of snow on it so getting a truck out there to help wouldn't be possible. Good thought though. It's just going to take some chain saws and people to move the trees off the road.

Would it be possible to find a helicopter logging company to clear the downed trees for the timber?

Does anybody have a contact?

The majority of the trees are less than 6 inches in diameter, there is some larger ones but not as many.

Thanks to the guys that showed up! We had our new groomer supervisor and 2 groomer operators out there along with 8 other guys. More would have definitely been better. A lot of the trees were in the 10"-12" range and we had to tackle a few in the 20" range. I think the longest distance we went without cutting a tree was about 1/4 of a mile and that was across the meadow where the Johnson Creek bridge is. We started at 10am and stopped at 4pm and made it about 6+ miles from the initial turn south from the Yellowpine turn off. I think we stopped where the road hits Tyndale Meadow. What it is like beyond that we don't know.
Again, a big thanks to the guys that showed up. We all worked our butts off and I bet we cut well over 100 trees.

THANKS to the other 9 that was there sat. I did not want to turn back at 3:00 but as bad as my sled was running ,I didn't want it to quit all together and then try to get it out with everyone as tired as we were. Please post some of the pictures. Had a great day :face-icon-small-hap

Looks like the average age of your group is around 50 yrs old! Good for you guys! That's a lot of work in snow conditions.

It's been a long time since I was that tired, but the accomplishment was great. I think I found the problem with the sled. After checking elec. connections I tryed a new relay and now have tack and lights and it runs much better. It would not run well enough to get itself off the trailer, had to winch it with the ATV.

Thats the first thing that went through my mind!

I dont even know where you guys are in idaho but i thank you for your hard work. I am sure if the youngsters could have pushed a button to get the work done they would have been there, thats all most of these kids know how to do anymore!

Thanks

Heh, that is what I thought too. I cannot criticize, I didn't make it either. I have a feeling after the last two days, we probably have quite a few trees down around the trail system here too.
Hope you guys got some free trail/sled stickers for you hard work! :)
