Electrical Problem

I am going to put up a post, but I am having a similar issue.

I have an 09 600 CFI and I am getting a blinking display. So here are the symptoms:

Everything is fine at Idle
Sled starts with 1 pull (maybe 2 when cold) every time
Sled runs great no performance issues
Highbeam Indicator, Reverse & brake light (when pulled) stay one when display starts blinking
No Dimming of headlight
Blinking starts when I rev the engine and then it goes out and then resets just like you started the sled up fresh.

I have wiggles wires around and don't seem to have anything grounding out when idle. It only happens when you throttle up past 2 - 3k RPM.

At first I suspected water in the connection between the hood harness and body harness, but blew it out and sprayed down with WD40. Still have the problem.

I am hoping that I am not on the VR train. I haven't seen too many 600 CFI sleds with this issue. Not sure if it was an 800 issue only. I don't want to fry an ECM if possible.

Is there anyway to check the VR?

Does anyone have a wire diagram so I can measure the VR?

Thanks.

Exactly what mine does (10 600CFI IQ), the dealer called Polaris and new VR on the way. Call your dealer and give them the Polaris Bulletin SSA-10-01, I got it from a thread on here and it basically covers your VR 12 months beyond the 12 month factory warranty. I would think if the VR causes the ECU(ECM) to fail they would cover that too. From what I have read the new VR may not even fix this glitch or NOT cause the ECU to burn up. We'll see when I ride it after the VR install hopefully in a couple days.

Another victim here, 09 D600. :face-icon-small-fro I will offer some advice...do not ride your sled if you get the MFD issue! I figured it was a VR and decided to keep riding while I wait for a new VR. Wrong decision...went out last Saturday and made 1/2 mi before the sled died (no previous engine issues). So, trailer it up to the dealer, and they tell me I have a fried ECU/VR. Fortunately I found this post as they are trying to stick me with a $700 bill to fix. I will be calling in the morning to see if I can get it covered. :cheer2:

Try this with your dealer. Replaced mine, no questions asked.

I'd hold off on riding. When mine was acting up, i couldnt ride more than 2 miles without having to shut it off and let it cool down. It run fine for a mile or two, then the dash would go out again, then it would start cutting out. If for some reason the fuel mapping acts up during this time, you'll do damage.

Replaced mine and it's been running great. Although, I've only ridden 300 miles.

I had my 2010 D8 out for just the 3rd time since I bought it and I got all these symptoms too (less than 100miles). At first it would shut off everytime I let it idle but it seemed fine when it was running mid-range or all out. But then it got more serious - completely losing power climbing and the dash and the headlight would go out. When the dash would come back the voltage meter would be flashing away. I was deep in the BC so I thought I'd better start heading back. On the way out it got progressively worse to the point where even while it was running it would refuse to give any power to the track. it would cough and sputter along with me walking beside it but would go nowhere if i was on it. the panel display would keep flashing on and off like it was resetting.

Called my shop and they immediately said it was the VR and it was 20min fix. But after readin this I'm worried I did some damage to the ECU (I have to admit I don't really know what that is - not a gear head). It was painful getting it that last couple of miles to my truck - coughing, sputtering, stalling, heaving, revving, dying, restarting, flashing...don't know how else to describe it.

I'll take it in this weekend and hope for the best. Should be under warranty regardless I guess.

Long story short...

Dealer tried to get it covered under the SSA, but was refused. I bought the sled in Sept 08, the extended warranty was expired before they even published the SSA (10/10). Called Polaris and they even went as far as to say my sled wasn't covered by the SSA (09 D600) and blew me off in a hard way. In talking with the dealer, they said that Polaris said it would have been covered if it would have happened before the end of the extended warranty (which, again, was before they even published the SSA). Un-fricken-believable! They will not be getting any more $$ from me, they have lost a customer.

Polaris doesn't even have stock of the Regulators, either....:brokenheart:

Sounds like it is a dealer issue to me...they replaced mine on my 09 rmk 700 no questions asked. All i said was i had a bad VR and i gave him my name and when i brought it in that was all that was asked. I thinks its just your dealer.

Unfortunately, no... (Hence why I called it a abbreviated version) I talked to Polaris directly and they tried to tell me that my VIN wasn't even covered from the start. The dealer showed me the email communications they had with Polaris and it was indeed Polaris that said no to the dealer. We even tried to call their Polaris rep for a plea, and he shut us down as well.

Like I said, Polaris has lost a customer!

Took my 2010 D8 in and the VR fix took about 10 min. The back of it had completely melted. No charge under warranty.

So back out there this weekend and everything running great until the end of the day when something went wrong in the clutch/track.... got a serious clunking sound and especially going downhill the sound and the clunking feel would get pretty bad. Had to basically push it downhill by staying on the throttle.

So I guess its going back to the shop. The sled has about 150 miles on it.

I'm starting to think I need to move in next door to my dealer.

yeah im not going to ride mine until the dealer replaces my VR...they were out of them and said they would have some at the first of the week....i will report back with what part number the new VR has on it

Unplug the VR BUT DO NOT REV THE ENGINE!!. If the regulator is defective then by taking it out of the loop the system will function but without voltage regulation. At idle you'll be fine. If the symptoms don't change with regulator unplugged then it's probably not the problem.

Hey i got it fixed by the dealer under the bulletin so it didnt cost me anything. It was definitely the problem as i have over 200 miles on since it was fixed and no problems

Sounds like my vr is shot then, put a pcv on two weeks ago, rode last weekend, everything was fine, went to mccall this weekend and my sled would hardly idle and my display would shut off then come on, voltage meter would charge when i reved it up. Sled runs good besides not idling. Sled also went into limp mode 3 times on the trail ride back, but came out of it and ran fine.
