2009 RMK 700... today while riding i noticed that the voltage meter on the mfd was blinnking and was not showing any bars at all. eventually the mfd completely shut off while i was idling. i revved it up a little bit and the mfd started back up but the voltage meter was still blinking and showing no bars.

so i shut the sled down for ten minutes and sat there...started the sled back up and rode around for a few hours with normal operation. the voltage meter showed normal voltage.

then on the way back to the truck the voltage dropped off again and the meter started blinking and showing no bars. if i let the sled go down to idle the mfd would completely shut off and then again repower up when i took off again.

loaded the sled in the trailer and took all of my gear off and got ready to take off and i thought i would start it up again and see if it showed proper voltage...it did

does this sound like a voltage regulator problem?

it almost seemed that something was getting too hot and after it was allowed to cool it would work again...idk?

not the best day...i gernaded a 1115 belt to start off the day and then this.

sled has just over 1000 miles

any thoughts are appreciated thanks

definatley voltage regulator. By the sound of your story and how you could still ride I think you ecu will be fine.

Yeah, i bet your ecu is fine. Mine did the same stuff, with the addition of the sled cutting out and running like crap. Put a new VR on and see how it goes. then buy another one and keep it as a spare...

i read in another thread that there was a service bulletin for this...

out of the other thread:

Bulletin #SSA-10-01
October 28, 2010
EXPIRATION DATE: 12 months beyond unit’s original 12 month warranty period or June 30, 2012 - whichever comes first.
2009-2010 600/700/800 CFI Regulator/Rectifier Goodwill Coverage

if this is true i should still be covered...

has anyone dealt with this service bulletin?

Yes, just give that bulletin # to your dealer. He'll look it up, verify it, and take care of ya. Should....

But still, I'd order a spare VR and keep on hand, I sure will be!! Can get them for $129 i believe from polarispartspitstop.com Cheaper than a belt.

So whats your guys' thoughts on riding these when these symptoms appear. Absolutely no engine related matters whatsoever, idles/rips as usual. Just no lights/gauges, ususally only at idle. My warrantied VR is on the way, but want to ride on Sunday. (600IQ)

I would be like you and very tempted, even against my own better judgement. What's an ECU worth, I guess that's the question. A blown ECU is probably the likely worst-case vs. having another ride. Tough call. :face-icon-small-coo Hope it doesn't start to add up for you.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. It ran awesome yesterday no problems other than panel/tach/lights blanking intermittently, would come right back though. Thanks.

yeah im not going to ride mine until the dealer replaces my VR...they were out of them and said they would have some at the first of the week....i will report back with what part number the new VR has on it

When one of my carbed RMK's did this the wires to the selenoid for the exhaust valves grounding out on the cross brace.

I'd hold off on riding. When mine was acting up, i couldnt ride more than 2 miles without having to shut it off and let it cool down. It run fine for a mile or two, then the dash would go out again, then it would start cutting out. If for some reason the fuel mapping acts up during this time, you'll do damage.

Replaced mine and it's been running great. Although, I've only ridden 300 miles.

No voltage regulator = burnt ecm that turns into a lean burndown and top end rebuild. Seen it happen more then once. Not sure what causes the ecm to alter the map when it burns up but it does.

You know I am not even sure it is the VR. NO performance issues what so ever, just the Intsr panel/lights/tach going or fading out. Volt meter comes back under power, drops at idle, then flashes. Now I am concerned with ECM(ECU) burning out when the new VR is put on. As I stated it never suffered any running issues when the volt meter dropped and I lost the panel/lights/tach.:tsk: Maybe just a short somewhere. Thanks for listening, very frustrated with 200 miles on a new sled. 13 the dealer put on it trying to duplicate my problem, they could not.

I had a similar issue with my 09 turbo 700 yesterday. was hitting this hill a couple times then let a friend climb it. Let sled sit for 15 min a had a beer then hopped back on and had no bottom end power and engine would cut in and out on mid and top end..... not sure what the deal was i didnt see my guage cluster flashing or anything. thought i might have burned it down but the way the engine would cut in and out around mid range made me think it could possibly me the VR.....Any thoughts?????

I am going to put up a post, but I am having a similar issue.

I have an 09 600 CFI and I am getting a blinking display. So here are the symptoms:

Everything is fine at Idle
Sled starts with 1 pull (maybe 2 when cold) every time
Sled runs great no performance issues
Highbeam Indicator, Reverse & brake light (when pulled) stay one when display starts blinking
No Dimming of headlight
Blinking starts when I rev the engine and then it goes out and then resets just like you started the sled up fresh.

I have wiggles wires around and don't seem to have anything grounding out when idle. It only happens when you throttle up past 2 - 3k RPM.

At first I suspected water in the connection between the hood harness and body harness, but blew it out and sprayed down with WD40. Still have the problem.

I am hoping that I am not on the VR train. I haven't seen too many 600 CFI sleds with this issue. Not sure if it was an 800 issue only. I don't want to fry an ECM if possible.

Is there anyway to check the VR?

Does anyone have a wire diagram so I can measure the VR?

Thanks.
