EcoBoost vs. 6.0L Chevy 2500 Towing competition

I want to see a comparison towing similar loads on similar terrain/speeds/hills. Eco vs 6.0 or 6.2 gas.

How well does it maintain speed and gear and rpm going uphill?

How well against headwind?

How well passing?

How well getting up to speed like when on onramps to interstate?

MPG towing.
MPG empty.

After driving an eco out west 2 weeks ago and having owned and drivin several chevy's out west with various engines the Eco should beat it in all those conditions... The Eco is the Best gas motor truck i have ever towed with.

I am super curious about the results. I am definitely in the market and don't hold much bias to either one. Let the best truck win!

I towed my 20' Tige Wakeboat back up to Montana from Arizona with a 2012 Crew Cab 4x4 Ecoboost (w/ 3.73 gearing) and am very impressed. I figure the weight of the boat and trailer was close to 5000 lbs. I was able to drive 75 - 80 mph and you couldn't even feel the trailer behind you. I have also done quite a bit of towing with a chevy 2500 6.0 and chevy 1500 5.3 (both w/ 3.73 gearing i believe) neither chevy pulls loads as competently as the ford ecoboost. Just my .02 :face-icon-small-hap

The eco is a great motor but a thirsty one when pushed. The biggest thing with the 6.0 is the gear ratio. If you are going to pull more then 50% of the time get the 4.10.

How did it do on fuel at those speeds?? Thanks in advance?

Rant: WHY DOES FORD ONLY OFFER ECO BOOST IN PLATINUM PACKAGE? In the market for a new truck and started looking at eco boost. Holy mother they want a pretty coin for that truck... :scared: can buy a Dmax for almost the same price...
Pretty sure i will be going with the 6.2 gmc because its available in a more standard package...

phatty, that doesn't sound right. I thought they offered that engine in everything to appeal to the entire market. They are more money though. I just bought a '12 back in the summer and opted for the 5.0 since it was $1000 in incentive plus $1000 cheaper. Couldn't justify it for an additional $2000 on my Lariat.

I drove thru the Ford dealership this last weekend and found the eco offered in the Platinum all the way down to the XLT model's. In fact the Platinum model was more rare than the XLT model at this particular dealer.

You are correct in saying that the Platinum package is one pricey Sum b**ch tho!!

Yep you can get them in the lower packages with cloth. My buddy has a 12 crew with cloth and the eco! Its a sweet truck!!! I think he payed like 33 or 34 for it brand new.

My hand calculated mileage over approximatley 1300 miles was right around 10-11 mpg...however, the tank on the truck is 36 gallons so you still get quite a bit of range. The thing i really liked is after i unhooked the trailer and drove the truck another hundred miles home the fuel economy (on the computer in the truck) went up to around 19 mpg. hope this helps!

The 6.2 is a great motor. You do know that GM will have a new truck probably summer they have an all new 6.2, 5.3 and 4.3 (v6). All new. Same displacement as their old engines but completely new. In corvette form their 6.2 makes 450 for both torque and power. I'm guessing it will be about 415-420 in truck form.

That's all great! But the back seat legroom didn't get any bigger.... :face-icon-small-fro

Started looking around plenty of ford Eco boosts to be found... I'm an idiot! Lol
Of course finding an Eco boost in color blue flame in xlt package is pretty much not gonna happen. Keep looking though :)

Look at the FX4 package. That was my second choice before I decided to pull the trigger on my Dury.

On the 2014 Sierra it did. And they also went to a 6.5 foot bed on the half crew cab.

I knew about the 6.5 bed. but everything I had heard was the back seat legroom didnt get bigger... if it would grow 4 plus inches to be like the ford I would get one!
