EcoBoost vs. 6.0L Chevy 2500 Towing competition

Ok, so I just got a 2011 Eco Boost Screw XLT with tow package and found out that my brother just picked up a 2011 Chevy 2500 with the 6.0 L gas motor. When I told him my truck developed more horsepower and had better torque, he almost blew a gasket!

So now the competition has been planned. In two weeks, I'm going to drive over and visit them (7 hrs away) and he wants to have a race towing his 20' ski boat to see whose truck is fastest.

My questions are: Should I try this with 4x4 engaged? (I've heard of some people doing this)
Traction Control: On or Off?
Any other hints or tips to get the best time in this competition?

Has anyone else raced/towed against a 6.0L chevy?

Thanks

Instead of trying the tricks, why not make it fair? Do both trucks several times, 4x4, traction control both on and off. Report back.

I wish there were more real world tests showing how the Eco stacks up against the 3/4 ton trucks, both gas and diesel. I know towing the diesel would win, but would still like to see where the eco falls between the gas and diesels, and I'm guessing the eco will tow better (motorwise) than any 3/4 ton gas.

The main downsides I can see is that the eco is lighter so what you're towing will be more likely to affect it and the payload capacity isn't as great.

A better comparison would be the EC vs. GM 6.2.

Which engine is Obama Motors putting in their 3/4Ton?

I've pulled a boat (approx 4000lbs & very aerodynamic) with a 6.2 across SD (relatively flat). Slight side wind, maybe 10mph)
It had the power, but lacked the grunt.
Would never hold 6th on any grade at all.
Would rarely hold 5th in rolling hills.
Ended up running in 4th the whole time.

I think the 6.2 is a great engine, but it's a runner not a puller.
I would take one in a heartbeat as I only pull less than 5% of the time
But the 6.0 is a better puller.
Who else misses the 8.1?

Good idea! I wasn't necessarily trying to win by trickery, just trying to make sure I get the best time possible...

I will post the videos here after we're done (mid to late January)

Comparing your ecoboost to his 2500 is not a fair race due to the fact that the HD chassis is probably close to 2000lbs more mass than your F150.I was going to try out an ecoboost for my latest truck but after reading a very in depth review from a guy who posted his gas mileage on all 17 tanks of fuel pulling a 24' travel trailer from Winnepeg to BC and back.Just about every tank of fuel was empty after 350KM[217 miles].Same mileage when I towed with my 08 5.3 siverado.Yes ecoboost makes good power and pulls hard but is thirsty.I bought a 2011 2500HD CC Duramax instead

It doesn't matter if it is a fair comparison. It will be interesting to see the results.

I've had my Ecoboost for a couple months now and I really love it. Have almost 400 miles on it towing 3 and 4 place enclosed trailers.

Tows far better then any other gas rig I've ever been around. Even better then the 8.1 IMO.

This engine just makes a lot of low end torque and doesn't have to downshift constantly like the V8s.

It makes any other stock gas truck engine look silly, especially towing.

I'm coming off a Cummins and have no regrets. Was tiried of getting f'd on diesel fuel prices and the rough 3/4 ton ride.

Actually, I just looked it up... The Chevy 2500 is 6,278 lbs. and my SuperCrew with 6.5' bed is 5,716 for a difference of 562 lbs.

My main thoughts are that he has the 3.73 gears, and I have the 3.55 rear end...

should be pretty close!

He must have lost and hoped this thread would be forgotten????

It's all about traction

I want to see a comparison towing similar loads on similar terrain/speeds/hills. Eco vs 6.0 or 6.2 gas.

How well does it maintain speed and gear and rpm going uphill?

How well against headwind?

How well passing?

How well getting up to speed like when on onramps to interstate?

MPG towing.
MPG empty.
