I have a 2013 ecoboost it is surging under light loads any one else having that problem it seems to be common

Function of having a boosted anything. Change your throttle habit and it will likely go away ..... :)

My brother has an 11 eco and he believes that his surging is caused by his transmission. His transmission has already been apart to have the pump undated and the torque converter replaced. After that every now and then it won't shift out of second under throttle and won't shift until you let off.

Us 7.3 PSD drivers experience surge from the compressor wheel , its called surge but is more of a chatter coming from the intake .

I have read about the surge as well. I have a '12 5.0 and sometimes it will surge at about 20-25 mph rolling down the side street. It usually starts when I fire it up and start rolling from the house. I let off the throttle and let it coast for about a half block, then it cleans up.

Not sure if yours is similar, but it almost acts like a feedback loop for the FI or something funny that way.

My wife's '12 does this too, drives me nuts. I love driving the truck, but..... We took it in and the did the magical ford cure all answer "reflashed pcm" and replaced the intercooler with a "supposedly new design", but it still does it. Not as bad, but still there. And now our mileage is in the toilet, used to average about 16-16.5 and now we are sitting at 14.5! Not impressed! Let us know if you find anything else out. Ford has been little to no help so far....

...and some fail catastrophically. :D

Its basically the same thing as cavitation on a boat prop. Just a imbalance in air coming in/out of compressor housing ..it sounds horrible but really doesnt do muh damage...catastrophic failure is usually due to insane backpressure, regardless if this issue is in fact compressor surge , give it a few months or so , someone will come out with a aftermarket wheel and problem will be solved... What turbos are on those?

Didn't the 2012's recall the intercooler for "leaking"? (Water getting into charge tube ) Maybe other years as well?

They didn't recall the intercoolers yet but they have replaced a ton of them so far. My dealer said Ford is over 1500 behind right now.

Surging or Vibration?

I've had this vibration since around 7500 miles. You could feel it in the floorboards through your feet, especially on the passenger side. I thought it was coming from the air intake from the inter-cooler to the engine. It would happen at random while empty or pulling a trailer. Took it to the dealer and took the mechanic for a drive and luckily got it to do it. He agreed it maybe the air intake and took it in the shop and found a "vacuum pump" under the air box that had gone bad. I am skeptical that was the problem but i haven't felt the problem for over a week now so maybe it was.

I just turned 40K miles and I am super impressed with this pickup. :D While at the dealer I got to test drive a 2013 Ford Raptor w\Roush super charger package. Holy giant brass balls that thing has. On slick roads it is nearly impossible to get around without being in 4wd. At 71K I'll keep my ecoboost but it was fun to drive.:face-icon-small-ton
