Ecoboost Max Tow 4x4 Real World Mileage

I thought that was only available in the V6 engine?

At the moment thats correct

The ZF 8 speed auto is supposed to be available with the Hemi in January. At least thats what I heard last.

It seems like the Ecoboost trucks have gone up like $3000 since I bought my 2011. At that price I will just buy a diesel again next time.

My 2011 FX4 with sunroof and luxury package stickered for $45k. Now they are closer to 48-49k.

A Laramie Cummins stickers for or $53-55k similarly equipped. Duramax is more like 58k.

And a guy can usually can get $10k off sticker on the Ram. $6-7k off Ecoboost or Duramax.

If prices are similar when I am ready to ready to replace my 11 Ecoboost, I will be back in a Cummins. I gotta say I do like the F150 ride and cheap gas though:)

Just purchased a 12 fx4 screw luxury w/ Eco and 3.73's last week, I took it on a 3000 mi. trip 2 days later, and I can say I flat out love it!!! I drove it from northern mn. across s.d. and wyo up to Bozeman mt and back across n.d. The worst mileage was across s.d. driving 75-80 buckin a slight northwest wind(10-15 mph) that tank was 17.2. Best was 19.7 jogging all over wyo up to Bozeman, some 2 lane some 4, running between 65-75. From Bozeman back to mn. I got 18, the average for the trip was 18.2, I also hand checked a couple tanks and the computer is damn close. Love the power of the Eco, never downshifted, only had about 800 lbs in the back and no trailer though. Coming from a 05 F150 w/ 5.4, I know I would've struggled to see better than 16. I liked my old truck, I love my new one!!!

Nice. Your mileage is good.

Also, I have found the computer to almost always be within .1-.3 gallons. Its extremely accurate.

The Ford is a lower cost than the Dodge. Same level of accessories. Ford has rear view camera and reverse senders. Based on what I am hearing and seeing, I think I will go with the Ford. Thanks for the input

Ya but you will have to deal with having an ugly truck!

I have a 2011 with Max tow packge, 3.73 gears.
Drove from SLC to middle of Nebraska. 80 mph most of the trip one I hit Wyoming. Got 17.1 mpg.

Doesn't get much more real world than that.

thinking eco myself

Sounds like no regrets from ecoboost owners, looking at getting one myself and have been reading up on the ford forum about some intercooler condensing problems. Any of you heard or dealt with this? I would love to get one but shelling out $35-40k is a big investment for me and I couldn't afford to have a truck that would end up in the shop getting the glitches worked out. I haven't heard of problems with the'13 yet, I want to buy a ford just not sure which one yet.

I bought the 2011 used. I drove in Nebraska in the rain for an hour at 48* and just before I hit my exit I mashed the accelerator to the floor just to see if it would get the stumble like some have reported and I had no problem.

I did read they changed the inter cooler for 2013. Who knows at this point. I have the Lariat package and am happy with it.

My 11 Ecoboost that I have had for a year has never missed a beat. No issues.

I've read about the intercooler condensation issue it sounds like you have to have a very damp and wet climate, with short drives in order to do it.

I've never had an issue, but Montana is pretty damn dry. Short or Arizona, I don't think you could get much more of an arid climate.

I just bought a '12 ecoboost a couple weeks ago. 145"wb, 3.55 gears

I love the truck, put about 2400 miles on it so far, including a 1600 mile trip.

I was heading west from green bay to Pierre SD so I spent a lot of time in different speed zones. Here's what the truck measured:

62 mph: 22.1 mpg
67 mph: 19.0 mpg
72 mph: 17.5 mpg
78 mph: 16.9 mpg
82 mph: 14.4 mpg

The mileage is fine, but it's the power that really stands out with this truck...

I should comment, I did have it shutter on me on the way home on the trip. It was 35 degrees, drizzling. I was in 6th gear, 62 mph @ 1700 rpm. Started climbing a good hill, as boost came on, it started shuttering pretty severely. Before I could react it quit shuttering. It never happened again... SO, i am going to talk to the dealer about this, and see what we need to do...

I'm taking it from Green Bay to West Yellowstone next week pulling a trailer, I'll let you guys know how it does...

My 12 fx4 Eco with 3.73 with two sleds on a two place trailer on my way out west results so far.

First tanks going 65mph got 11.9

Second tank full at 75 10.3

Power is great and almost never kicks out of 6th.

I towed my 3 place enclosed with my '12 5.0 and was impressed. I can only imagine that the TT motor would be that much better.

This is what I normally tow. 3 place enclose Charmac. 12' square plus 6 ft Vee. Charmac's website lists it as 3800 lbs empty. 2 or 3 sleds in it normally.

Last two trips. Got 10.7 MPG over 140 miles and got 11.8 MPG over 180 miles.

Tows it effortlessly

Nice trucks but with those mileage numbers while towing I think I'll stick with my old reliable 7.3 Power Stroke + it's paid for :face-icon-small-hap

We call this Just Under 70

Great to hear guys! That's just as good if not better than any diesel we have ever taken out and fuel is almost a $1.00 per gallon cheaper! No brainer!!!

I dont get as good with mine as everyone else i guess, but it seems like mother nature hates me everytime im pulling a trailer by blessing me with head winds

11 fX4 3.73 screw
4 place open with sleds avg 9 best 13, but the truck never shifts and you cant feel the trailer behind you. i will no doubt buy another one

It seems the 6.5 beds are rare.(in the crew cabs anyhow)

I like the reported fuel mileage. Not bad for towing. Just 1mpg or so better than my gas gm 6.0 and about 1mpg less than the diesels I've been in, so it's right in the "to be expected" ball park.

Empty, much better mileage than my 6.0.

Towing ability sounds much better.

The payload, I wish they would increase it about 500#. My future vision is a sled deck.

Right now I'm in a holding pattern but the Eco is on my list, especially if I sell the 24' toy hauler that only gets used about once a year.
