Eat and Drink while riding

Jerky & Gatorade. I used to drink 5-6 cans of Mt. Dew a day before I switched to G-aid... so before you get on my case about the G-aid, consider that I'm doing much better than I used to be.

I've been thinking about getting a muff-pot too. Thought it might be nice to have something warm but I couldn't help but wonder, what's the average life on one of those things? Also wondering... since I can't seem to cook anything in the kitchen without burning it... how do you know when your food is good to go? Will it burn stuff or does it just keep things warm?

Trail mix, jerky, energy / protein bars, vitamin water and or coconut water. Sometimes a sandwich or a lunchable.

Thermos of coffee, liter or two of water, sandwich, almonds or trail mix, and whatever junk food I find at the gas station. When I had a muff pot I usually brought burritos. Might have to pick up another one of those..

Usually buy a couple 6 packs... of cheese filled hot dogs and bring some buns and ketchup. Ive done lil smokies, hot pockets, sandwhiches, pizza rolls. Even took some leftovers before but don't remember what those were. The ol muff pot is the best mod ive ever done

Nothing quite like bustin up some pow with the smell of warm food hitting you in the face as well.:face-icon-small-ton

choc milk on the way out and for the ride home. Something in the muffpot, G2 and mars or snickers. Gonna switch to water and MIO Sport with electrolytes..try something new. I like the raisins, nuts and choc mix...good idea.

Muff pot is great, I'm going on 4-5 years with the one I have and it has held up well. I clean/dry mine often and use the turkey bags for easy cleanup. I usually throw some precooked brats and share with my buddy. On my mountain max it was close to the ypipe and cooked really fast. On my XP it is out on the HPS can and takes much longer, but after a few hard pulls warms up nicely. Another thing I carry is a folding stove (MSR I think) with the fuel and throw a can of soup on. A minute or two and its hot, but if you aren't stirring it will burn. I could essentially use the stove with the muff pot to boil water if needed over night.

For food I always have more than I need but won't regret if we're stuck overnight and most the time end up sharing with those who forgot to grab lunch. Brats/hotpockets/burritos/anything left over (best ever was bacon wrapped shrimp) for the muff pot. Various snacks depending on what i feel like, crackers, chips, fruit snacks ect. Protein, jerky, pepperoni. Power bars and can of soup stay in my pack incase they are needed. Poweraid and a couple bottles of water.

i am not a nutritionist

i went by the rule

water , and as much as you can , in general i think you want your pee,, to be light to clear most all times. exception will be first thing after sleep naturally. but at higher elevations and with intense physical activity your body needs more than you would normally consume. dont drink only when you are thirsty ..make it a habit to regularly drink at intervals

caffeine is a diuretic , i avoid whenever possible

food..
the principal i heard was for cold weather survival ,, its fats & proteins only

think Eskimo.. whale / seal meat blubber ..

im not saying bring a bucket of blubber lol .. just the philosophy

nuts, jerkys ect ect ,, and for the sweet tooth ..chocolate.. got your attention now eh :P although it has caffeine, its mostly cocoa butter by calorie ,, well and sugar

eat breakfast ,, thats a good time to take in your carbs,, oatmeal , whatver.. and a great way to set your day on the right foot

To add to this.....

I have carried my jetboil now for two hunting seasons.
Just carry an extra bottle of water for this.

Never have to clean it out because I just boil water in it (16oz boils in less than 2 mins) and pour the boiling water into my Mountain House bag.

LOVE eating that way.
VERY filling.
Get 16oz of fluid in ya while doing this.

My dad carries his too, but takes Top Ramen. He has to clean out his jetboil. LOL

Nothing like stopping and popping open the muff pot and snack on some big ole shrimp simmered in butter and garlic followed with a cold beer . Throw in some beer brats for later , we carry tortilla and warm them up on the pipe instead of buns . There is always a sugar free red bull for the ride out .
Always bring extra to share to keep your riding partners happy so they do not mind getting me unstuck all day .

Usually eat too heavy a breakfast, bacon, eggs, toast, hashbrowns. Then carry a litre of water, 1-3 beers depending on how lazy a ride it is, lunchables, a few granola bars, and some protein bars in the bottom of the pack for an emergency. No coffee, caffeine, or energy products at any point.

Going to make some changes this year and eat a lighter breakfast, drink more water while I ride, eat some trail mix or granola/power bar throughout the day, and pack food in my muffpot. I like the idea of prawns, toasted sandwiches, cooked chicken or beef dishes etc.

Truthfully I really hate eating and drinking while riding because my hands either freeze or I get food all over my gloves lol.

We buy those per cooked strips of chicken breasts and cube up some cheese and cook it in the Muff pot in an oven bag. Carry a tooth pick dispenser and just pick the pieces out with the toothpick. Little smokies in BBQ are common too. I am going to try Totinos Pizza Rolls this year.
