Beautiful conditions today, anyone going up this weekend will have a great time!!! BTW anyone own a 2009 Summit 154 with the suspension setup for boondockin' I implore you to post here how you have it setup I can't ride another mile with the newbee until he gets his sled setup right.. Sled will not carve and takes 4 acres to turn it around, rider is about 190 pounds.... I know my back cannot take another stuckfest ride... Anyone???

have him adjust the front suspension shock a few rounds, makes a huge difference on how much pressure is on the ski's. his manual will tell which way to go

front shocks all the way loose (least stiff) middle shock on 1 or also least stiff ,back springs on 3 for him if hes 190 pounds. .limiter strap all the way out on the last hole. handlebars tilted back so that there inline with the steering colume.or just a half inch forward.. than while your at it u might as well cut a hole in the top of the dash and get the aftermarket air intake that goes down from the dash and into the airbox.. those summits stock air intake get choked out in the deep.... i could go on but it would take all winter....i sold my xp and i am looking for a cat as of now.

I'm trying my front shocks on a stiffer setting but I have Fox Floats. I do have my limiter strap all the way out and my rear springs are the stiffest springs BRP makes but I have them set in the #2 position. This helps me avoid trenching. I'm about 30 pounds heavier than 190 but I don't have problems boondocking or carving. It really is going to take some getting used to and some personal preference befeore you nail the right setup that fits you. Everybody is different. The way they ride and they way they situate themselves on the sled. The fact that you have switched from a Nytro to an XP is a bit of a culture shock and that will take a little getting used to. IMO.

BTW, Mark. The pics look great. It looks like it's finally getting halfway decent up there. I may just have to ride there when I come up once this season. Holding out for that epic powder day I guess. Glad you all had fun.

pj have u tried putting the handle bars back inline with the steering colume? my friend told me to do that when i had just bought my xp and i wouldnt do it. i was used to my zx with a riser on it and the bars forward . but with the xp i did make the sled handle a lot better . what happened is i finally tried moving the bars back and it helped so much i put them all the way back in line with the colume . try it , if u havent yet .u may like it.. the xp can go through the powder but like anything else it needs to breath... with your weight i would go 2 on front shocks and thats 2 from least stiff and one under you , and 3 or 4 on the back . with limiter strap on last hole .
 
I have my XP set up almost to where I want it. I'm still playing with my Fox Shocks but Floats are a different breed. Why did you sell the XP? For a Cat?
 
i have had 4 snowmobiles since 1998 and all have been skidoo. i have dealt with blown cranks , and i have dealt with the xp not getting air . it was a 08 , what i did last year was update the air intake to the 09 but it still is in the same place , thats why i say if u r going to ride the xp u or the dealer can install the the air intake on top of the dash , because what happens in the really deep powder is the sled gets choked out with the one air intake on the hood..
as for cat they have 2 air intakes one on each side just under the windshield so when carving u cant smother both , just one at a time.. also snowmark after 8000 miles rebuilt his top end on his cat , my other 2 friends have been riding there cats with out any problems.. it just seems to me that the cat is a more of a pull and go sled. and i have riden there cats and they do take less effort to boondock,.. the xp is a flat riding sled witch isnt all bad. but i like to be on my edge and throw the sled around.. so i think the cat is a better fit for me at this time..
