Driveshaft thoughts..

I just wanted to give those who worry about both their driveshaft and their warranty a bit of info, Eric(MountainHorse on here) posted last season that the 11-12 driveshafts will fit the new quickdrive(maybe carls or someone else will enlighten us), anyway, a stock 11-12 driveshaft is less then 2 bills thru your dealer, and if the shaft failing is a big concern this may be your best option to aleviate your concerns while protecting your warranty,,If it interest you, .........ASK YOUR DEALER... see if polaris will let you swap out the shaft and protect your warranty...its a few hrs of work but for those that are worried about it..should be a 5 min call for your dealer to contact polaris..if nothing else..poo gets enough calls they may do it themselves..free of charge..but for those that are worried about it...it should aleviate most of your fears without killing your warranty...Hope this helps some of you...

less than 2 bills. man you americans are lucky. canadian price is $568.00. ouch.
ha..made me go look again..punched the wrong shaft..driveshaft is under 250 at cost...after buying a 12 grand sled..I would think a dealer would be happy to make the call and sell for a 10-15% markup.....and more importantly..if enough talk to their dealers and get them to call poo..who knows..maybe polaris will do it on their own...

I just looked up a drive shaft for a 2012 RMK and it was $415 at dealer cost parts which is by far the cheapest site on the web. In Canada it will probable be very close to 600 or even more by the time you pay tax.

Tax is only 5% here. All manufactures just take it upon themselves to charger 20-40% more in Canada.

hit your dealer up to give it to you at cost..you just bought a 12 grand sled from him..and more importantly..get him to call poo..

got to love that free health care god save the queen:face-icon-small-win
it's a cash grab that has been going on for years. even our own companies charge us as if our dollar is still at 62 cents and punish us by trying to save money by purchasing from the US.

I snowchecked my white LE 13 163 from cycle works west in alberta. I paid 13500 tax in with a 1000 credit in the store.(Very happy with them, excellent parts department) I spent that 1000 before I read this post, so I think I am going to let it ride and hope I can have some good luck! But coming from my old 07 dragon 700 rmk this new sled has alot to live up to in the reliability department, and heres hoping Polaris got it right!

The Dragon drive shafts ARE completely different.

The 2011/12 driveshafts bolt in.

ALL of the PRO-RIDE chassis sleds, including the SB and RUSH models have the same driveshaft, although the driver arrangement and/or pitch are different with the subsequent different part numbers.

If you wanted to change drivers, you can run a RUSH or SB shaft in the 2013 PRO RMK....

I agree... For this one item, and maybe on a spare QD belt, a dealer that you just spent a wad of cash with should give you cost (or near cost) on these parts.

Good Thread!!

.

Retail on the 2012 shaft is $477. i highly doubt a dealer would sell one for $250, but i guess you never know until you try!

Also, I just want to let everyone know I too have a product to help save your drive shaft that is easy to install, and will reduce the chances of failure. Mine will only cost about 50$. Anyone want one?

It is pretty simple here is a picture of it. See the glue is failing, so I will simply add more glue to it. a solid 1/8th inch coat will definitely do it.

My product is not a permanent fix, it is just there so you feel more at ease while out riding and until polaris steps up and fixes this. Sorry if I am hijacking your thread, perhaps I should start my own? Regardless just send me a check in the mail for 50$ and I will send you your very own bottle and a picture of what your drive shaft looks like so you know where to add the glue. :) I saw RKT had a plethora of people interested in his fix on his thread before he took it down. If some of those people want the additional insurance of having this extra glue go ahead and PM me.

As touchy as the QD belts seem to be I would be curious as to how the extra weight of the 11-12 shaft would effect belt life......maybe this is also why they didn't put the brake on the driveshaft????

Michelle at Oregon Trail sports says "Available at this time" and $340 for the steel driveshafts.

Just off the top of my head , and this could be good or bad , maybe the price has changed it was 250.00 for an XP shaft with extroverts . :fear:

On the sleds we drove up at Daniels summit for the first ride of the 2013's... they were all the bonded aluminum shafts

Thanks, that gives me a tiny fragment of hope that they can last at least a thousand miles. However, when I look at the design and see a 3/8" flange of metal glued together, I just don't ever see that as being a part capable of handling the contant torque of 140hp mile after mile. If they had at least made the metal flange 2-3 inches it would have been so much more stable and more surface to adhere.
