Drinking age.............

Personally I think that it should be changed back to 19. I turned 19 just before Alaska changed the drinking age to 21 so I was grandfathered in. When I was at UAF I made a lot of trips to the Oaken Keg. I was legal but most of my friends weren't:D I did a lot of drinking for free those days;). I don't think that 18 would be good because there are a lot of 18 year olds still in high school.

Did Anyone wait until it was legal to drink ! Probably not ! Do you know anyone who did ?probably not! So whats the point of a law that no one obeys? I think we should lower the law to 13 years old! Thats when I first started drinking And I am pretty sure so did most of you!

There is not a law out there that is obeyed by everyone ALL the time. so with your logic we should just get rid of all laws, I mean there are murders every day so lets just make it legal. When responsible people drink they do so for a drink NOT to get drunk, that is not the case with most 18 - 21 yr olds.

I won't go along with that one because some decisions cannot and should not be left to children especially ones that carry lifelong addictions as a consequence. i won't let my girfriends 15 yr old smoke in my house just as i don't allow it with my own children that are now adults. So I'm a prick but, my mouse, my rules.

It should be all or none. If you are treated as an adult to go to war, go to prison, pay taxes, get married etc.. then you should be as an adult at the bar. If 18 is not old enough to drink then move it all back to 21.

Wow! thats a pretty good stretch!Drinking to murder! And where did I say we should get rid of all laws ? We should change the ones that dont fit todays world and likley never did.

It's 19 here in BC and I think that is as ideal as it's going to get. 21 is unaturally old....we live close to the border and when the 19 y/o US kids come north to drink they're always just rediculously pissed and can't handle boozin. I think the fact that it's illegal makes kids want to do it MORE.....hell, I'll say right out that the best times I ever had in a bar was when I was underage. Once you hit that age of maturity, it's not as big a deal anymore. And 19....well, you're allow to drive, vote, and go to war....might as well buy some beer.

It's funny cause in Italy (where my family came from) there is basically no drinking age, yet the kids don't binge drink in the way we do whatsoever. They drink more days, but they don't get hammered like we do.

You can still be drunk and be responsible. There's nowhere that says you have be a loud, obnoxious ******* when you're drunk. I can sit at a bar drunk and have a conversation just as normal as when sober and act like a normal person....although the words might be a little slurred. I just don't understand why so many can't do this.

I am 20 and this is exactly my thought on this subject as well. There are just to many 18 year olds in high school that would buy it for everyone underage. At least at 19 most people move out of their home town and would be with people legal.
I believe if this/my age group was legal you wouldn't notice so much binge drinking with us. Its done because its a rebelous thing. We are getting away with something illegal. Let it be legal. You are right when you say you will notice a lot of drunks right away, but that is becasue it would basically be 10000s of people turning 21 on the same day.

i am curently 18, just got out of highschool, in college now, my parents didnt care if i went out and drank with friends, as long as i stayed put, which i held good to. but i know far to many kids who have parents who bury there head in the sand, and as soon as the kids get a chance, they go out and get hammered. the place i worked, nobody cared about who was how old. i was able to drink beer at the end of the night(resturant work) and would have 2 or 3 just as a refreshing drink at the end of 8 hours of H3ll and madness. i know a few kids who started working there, and would just drink as much as they could, and steal from the "pot luck" style beer supply we were doing. just seems like if you let people do something its not a big deal. its when its illegal its fun, my buddy who just turned 21 has a fake id and loves to go out to the bars and get wasted, but hes already burning out on it. he also consideres the most fun hes ever had were the few times hes had to run from the cops at parties.

people who argue the brain issue, all i can say is europe. they are not all slums, they are all of the top economies in the world, that doesnt happen if you society is retarted.

and the way people bring up there kids now a days is pathetic, if the age dropped, there would be so many dead kids and dui's in the first day it would be overturned.

i would like to see it totally gotten rid of, or basically 13 or something like, but i will settle for 18, wanna teach somebody resoponsibility, then stop holding there hand.

the reason it all wont work is our society is a bunch of blame giving pansies. but thats a new story all together

In the state of WY, the youthful offender limit is .02. DUI limit is .08. I say if the drinking age would be lowered to 18, then the DUI limit should be lowered as well to a .04.

i agree with fox, have a comprimise, i thing .04 would be a little low, if you accidentally swallow a mouth full of scope mouthwash in the morning because your wife/gf/dog snuck up on ya and scares ya, 20 minutes later you would have a BAC of about .03. i as a 17 and 18 year old have indulged in the barley pop but have never gotten hammered, sure ive had the chance but never had the want, i dont know why people like to go out and get chitt faced drunk and black out... i dont see the appeal, i like to out every now and then and have a beer or two with some friends hell ive even had some at school... ( shhhh dont tell any one )

Actually, no. I work for a company that does electronic alcohol monitoring with an ankle bracelet, and we hear that excuse a lot. You'd need to consume a rather large quantity of mouthwash to get your BAC (And associated transdermal alcohol content, what our bracelet looks at) up to something that would register on that equipment. A breath test (BrAC) will show a rather high alcohol reading after using mouthwash, but because of that interferant it's not a true reading of your intoxication level. If you're consuming enough mouthwash to reach any significant level of intoxication, you're about to have much more health problems than just feeling a little tipsy.

People come up with all kinds of goofy excuses to why their bracelet read alcohol... Best one I heard (and again proved false.... please don't ask) is "I was taking a shower and my wife came home drunk and pissed on me."

Had one guy put a bullet through the bracelet while it was on his leg... what really amazed me with that one was it continued to take data and communicate with our network after it had been shot.
