Drilling the Spindle

Sorry to be asking all these questions but better safe than sorry. I'm at the stage in my install where I need to drill the spindle for the fork clamps. What is eveyones experience with where to drill the spindle. Flush or 1/4" space and how much difference will a guy feel between the 2. I'm willing to give up the trail performance for off trail performance. I know what the directions say just looking for some real world advice and experience. I guess really what we are adjusting here is the castor angle and the way the directions are written it seems opposite to me so more castor = better trail ride so that would be the 1/4" gap.

Thx M5

For a more exact setting you want to have 1” of trailing in your ski in relation to the tire axel bolt. To find this position put a square on the floor and center it to the axel bolt. Then use a ruler and measure 1” back to the ski bolt. This is the ideal set for the ski position. Depending on what bike you have it will be within that flush to ¼” measurement that was given in the instructions.<O:p</O:p

OK so I did as you said and 1" trail with the squares etc leaves the spindle flush with the bracket. Its an 08 KTM 450 EXCR WP 48 forks. If I'm reading the directions correctly this would be the trail setup vs the off trail bias. Correct?
