Dragon Reflash & Engine Failure!!

I just burned down my engine on my stock 08 D8 last week. Dealer says the top end is toast. I had the new updated top end/reflash put in last year and was one month past my warranty expiration date (about 400 miles on the new motor) and I am pissed.

Apparently I was running the initial 1st release "ECU reflash update" for the dragon and there has been a few releases since then. I wanted to see what ECU reflash release people were running in their D8s when their sled burned down. The dealer says they haven't seen any D8s fail that have had the newest reflash, I want to see what you all have experienced.

I can't believe a company can get away with this. Anyone filed a class action lawsuit against Polaris yet?

Wideopen,

I think the dealers are all programmed to say they have not seen common or known failures in general. I directly have 2 friends who have there RMK 800's melt down with the newest map. I suggest that they run the pcv but they were not willing to spend the money and one had warranty coverage and one did not.

If you are out of warranty coverage you should look at the fix here on the forum and then maybe consider the pcv. There are a great many published failures here on the forum if you start looking as well.

There is no ryme or reason to this... There is no sense in spending $$ on anything to try and make these survive, they go down no matter what. We have tried everything.

The next try is the PMS kit with the PCV and new VR. What flash will I use to lay the PCV on... I don't even know anymore?

Hard to laugh but this is almost comical.

I have EGT's and a PCV. I even had my pistons coated to help prevent extreme expansion in lean spots.

I feel your pain! I have been through 4 motors on my 09 D8 two of my buddies have been through a combined 15 motors on there 08 D8's. Buddy one was out of warranty and Polaris covered parts only,

Buddy 2 out of warranty and Polaris will not do anything for him. All of us where running the newest flash April I think...

My sled blew the crank and the top end Polaris is covering the parts only as well.. (Three Months out of warranty 100 miles on new motor. )

If you find someone that has started a lawsuit let me know! I know three people that would love to jump on board!

I have started writing a letter to Polaris.. I know I will do NO GOOD! At least I will have a paper trail for the lawyers.. I am also sending them all my service records attached to the letter.

Good Luck...

april flash

my sons 09 d8 with the april flash lasted 30 miles, fried a piston.I asked dealer what caused it to burn,he said he did not know and would not spend time to look ,just put in new parts and give sled back.Sled is covered under waranty, but w'nt when he gets it back.what a piece of sh-t.

PS sled has 1000miles.

law suit yes

got 120 miles on mine the new april flash and its done dealer took it apart and found both rist pin snap rings gone on both of them mag side so they were slid in from the left side on each one an the ring not in the the groove properly they make a real mess in ther sent picts to polaris an they refused to do any thing this was a new 09 drop in they sent to my dealer

Well I have the april reflash which when I did in september n the dealer said this is the lastest. I have over 400 miles n no problems with just over 1000 miles overall on the sled. runs great. havent had one thing go wrong yet? (knock on wood)! I have heard the reason polaris wont do any kind of recall or anything about the motor is because people keep on buying them, so there sales arent down so why bother? Big business is all about the $$$ these days.

well that is not entirely true...polaris did multiple reflash which could be consider a recall (they are probably up to 8 reflash by now lol:face-icon-small-ton) and last year they did this massive recall with the pistons and head swap.

The reason they are not doing anything more is because they have a pro rmk that sells like crazy and that so far has been reliable.

Never had a problem with my d8 so far so I also knock on wood!!! But it pulls like a 600 so to me this is just as bad as a blown engine..

I had the new flash in last week so I will test it this week hoping I don't burned down...or should I say hoping the sled burn down so I can get a pro:face-icon-small-con :mad2:

LET'S DO SOMETHING!!!

:mad2: So I have a question! Are there any lawyers on here? It seems like there are enough people with the same problem with these sleds! Let's go after Polaris!!! PM me lets get a list going of interested people! Willing attorneys included! I know there has to be one or two on here!

Do a search for class action lawsuit. There was one started last year. Class actions just don't bring quick results and never seem to even come close to covering the cost of your sled.

I too had written Polaris a nice 2 pager. Multiple emails and phone calls and never recieved any kind of response. They know we are here, but are putting us on ignore.

The corporate world has truly lost any sense or morality. The stance that Polaris has taken ever since the 900 is nothing short of disheartening. There is no reason that these 800's should not have been recalled. The executive board's wages tell me so.

I am on my fourth motor. they have done a new flash every time. they tell me every time that it will fix it. my friend is on his fourth one also and the past three are in the last 200miles. they have fixed it but when we ask what they found wrong, they never have an answer. we might have to just start to put CAT MOTORS in our sleds.

that sucks, first they sell us the sled for x-amount of dollars then when they sells us all new cylinders pistons ect ect for x-amount of dollars when there out of warranty. I wonder is the PSI guy bought out polaris hahahah

I caught alot of hell on here because everybody was so proud of there dragons not so funny now that its comeing out of your pocket

Most dealers don't find anything wrong because they aren't trained to do so. They are just simply told to throw new parts at it and don't look any further than that. Or, they are just flat out lying to everyone.

There are some good mechanics out there that know exactly what is going on, but the question arises. Do you want your sled fixed or do you want your warranty? You can't have both.

OEM Polaris parts will not fix these sleds. Those are the parts causing it to fail in the first place. I'm not going to make a list because it's long. However, you need to know that there are just too many things wrong with this motor and they are all working together to destroy it.

In my mind the fact that the OEM pistons aren't even built to OEM specifications should justify a lawsuit. To me it just isn't feasible to fix these sleds. Trust me, you can spend an awful lot of money to correct the motor, but in the end it can all be destroyed by a voltage regulator. I don't really know what else to say. These sleds are frustrating and depressing.

I try to stay positive and help you guys out, but it pains me greatly to see all the problems these sleds have had. The lack of support and response from Polaris is just uncalled for. In the end I would just love to launch mine right through their front door. Park it right on the Presidents desk.

I'm with you Monte!

Took ours in with a bad VR and piston scuff, was running great till the VR went out. They took it apart and had already lost the piston skirt and broken the mag side cylinder flange. Both laying in the crank case! Sled might have made it another mile??

The fix is to stop riding polaris products and being their R&D department at your cost. They are not the only game in town and the only way they are going to change anything is for people to take their money elsewhere. They can build quality products but have failed to do so with the 800 since it was introduced. That's ten years of known failure and its still having trouble. I really like the looks of the PRO but im not about to subject myself to the polaris 800s troubles.
