Dont Follow Tracks you dont know where they go

Wow chad! I'm glad you guys made it out, and I'm really glad I didn't lead you down that!:face-icon-small-win

You must of been following the hiking trail that is in that canyon.

Ya i am glad there was some sort of flat spots to go down that gully. I am also glad there was only 2 sleds we had to worry about coming down that thing. I love tree riding but that got a little too narly for my style of riding. :)

That is a great idea to carry some rope. I think I will look into that for sure. As for now I think it will stick to the rule that if you have not been up it before you do not go down.

That is my Golden Rule! Just last week we were headed down a creek and I was real confident that you could make it all the way down back into Soapstone Basin but it got to be alot of trees and pretty tight so we turned around. Got home, looked at the GPS tracks for the past 3 years and I've never gone down that whole canyon. I know what one of my rides will be this year, try to ride UP it.

To many bad things have happened when we drop down into places that we haven't before. We've dropped down into a canyon that we had been in before, but it was literally 1/4 mile north of the furthest point we had been and we had to climb out the way we went in. There was no way to go any other direction. It sucked.

Glad you made it OK, got the experience and hopefully a waypoint on the GPS now!

another "Iron Mine Creek"

Kind of like Iron Mine Creek.

I know you're referring to thee Iron Mine Creek on the eastern edge of Soapstone here, but it's kinda funny there's also another "Iron Mine Creek" immediately south of Nobletts Creek! (see map)

Only 7 miles apart from each other and no way connected... wha, did they run outta names??

The map isn't clear enough to read on the iPad but the iron mine creek I refer to is right over the ridge from he top end of Soapstone creek and runs just below Iron Mine lake and mountain. It drains into the river to the east.

After the first 100 foot drop down the ridge the group took most of the rest of the day lowering the sleds one at a time down to the bottom.

Somewhere on here is the old story and map.

So if a guy were to hike the up knobblets creek in the summer with a chainsaw would it help to make it a rideable canyon?

couple of other canyons i need to clear out next summer as well... :yo:

Come on tree hugger. I don't see anywhere in Phatty's post where he says he's goin to go cut down trees. He does mention clearing the path though. I think there is a big difference between clearing out deadfall and dropping trees.

Just my $0.02!

TreeHugger? thems fightin words....If you look at Phattys post and your attitude, the real treehuggers will use it against us and we will lose areas. Be smart and dont post this stuff in a public 4M...peace out

A better idea... Maybe...

How about taking the saw and making the trip down the creek this weekend. Then you'd know what needs to be cleared out.

Ttt fallas.... Clean house Phatty, I'll ride it after..... You all relax and watch the videos again...

Yes removing some of the deadfall would help for sure. Also take down that stupid tree I hit that cost me $250 in a hood and bumper. Only problem right now is that the snow is not very deep so there are many big rocks that are not covered good. But you can make it over them. :). Also 3 feet more snow would help a ton.

Also let me know when this happens and I will come help for sure.
