Dog Anxiety

Another dog question.

We have a 6 month old beagle. Just got done dealing with parasites and chits....now on round 3 of medicine, but he still chits in the cage at night.

Wife called the vet today and talked with him. Told him we were on round 3(4 days of in) and he is still chitting in his cage at night. Vet told her it is not from the parasites at this stage of medication.

Told her since he seems to do well outside it could be some anxiety with the cage. He's always slept in there since day one, so i think that is weird. We have him outside when it's nice for 5-6 hours a day and he gets a daily walk and I try to run him on my bike 3 times a week.

I have no idea why he would have anxiety with the cage. We can leave him in it during the day and be gone for 6 hours and no accidents, but damn near every night he will crap:mad:

Vet said to try putting him outside all night to see if that helps, but I'm not sure on leaving him out without a roof, etc. I was thinking maybe a night light?

Only other thing I can think of is that I need to work him more often and harder....which I was planning on starting to train him for running rabbits this fall.

Anyone got some ideas?

Wher'es the crate relative to where you sleep?

opposite end onf the house in the dining room, same floor. Close enough I can hear if he whines...you thinking he needs to be closer?

My dog (border collie) doesn't leave the room when I'm sleeping. Parents had a beagle that was very attached as well... could be something to that effect.

worth a shot. thanks

If I lock my dog out of my bedroom he does the same thing. I think he does it to piss me off. But when I let him in my room to sleep, he wakes me up from a dead sleep to take him outside.

he's a true bastad like his owner....that's for sure

I have a boxer with a similer deal he doesnt poop but he freaks if you put him in the box and leave the house and if you dont put him in the box and leave well we wont go there a tornado would do less damage. But he is fine as long as some one is around.

How big of a cage is he in. Had a lab that started doing that at about the same age, decreased the size of his cage at night and never had anymore issues.

We have tried that before and he still did it...course he was on his frist round of medicine for bugs...

Take him out to do his duty before you go to bed. Don't feed him to late. It's all about a schedule and staying on it.

Our dog prefers her crate except at night and then she sleeps in our room on her bed or under our bed. During the day she goes in her crate with no door and sleeps. I think crates are great for training, but the little critters love to be with their family otherwise.

So my vote, no crate at night. :)

It sounds like he's suffering from separation anxiety. Needs to be closer to the master.

I have had a similar problem with my 4 month old german short hair.. she is always chitt'n and pizz'n in her kennel at night. After sounds rounds of medication from the vet.. she still does it.. come to find out the people that had her 1. took away from mother too soon 2. left her in a cat cage for 14 hours a day then came home and let her outside once and too bed..

Vet says she has separation anxiety.. and can't be left alone much till she gets older.. or it will just get worse..so lately i've been taking her to work.. and right before bed i have been working/playing with her a ton, and put her kennel right next to my bedroom door.. and she hasn't slipped up once.... knock on wood..

well we tried leaving a light on in the kitchen last night and I he did good...see what tonight brings. The wife doesn't like the idea of bringing him into our room, so I hope a night light does the trick.

another thing you might try is putting a radio on really low, my brother did that with his young lab it worked very well..not so much with my dog.. but hey its worth a shot

Not gonna lie there's never been a woman I'd chose over my dog. I guess that could be the reason I'm single. But I am dam sure my dog has never chosen anyone else over me either:D.
