Does a new sled make you a better rider????

I have only been out to the mountain 3 times this year but I am already hearing about who has the best sled. Is it the Arctic Cat M8 or M1000? The new Ski-Doo XP? Or the Polaris Dragon?

All that aside, do any of these sleds really make you a better rider? I know a guy that has a '03 Polaris Vertical Escape and he can out ride alot of the new sleds hands down. What do you think? Does your new sled make you a better rider?

The guy with the bestl built young blonde is the biggest stud right??? The guy with the newsest trick $15,000 sled has got to be the man as well LOL. All joking aside, the new sleds can be easier to get around on at times, but you still have to be a good rider first! There are alot old farts on old iron that can embarrass the young studs riding their wallets:D

x2. but there are those times when the older sleds just don't have the grunt to go some places newer ones do. im talking in deep powder. the newer sleds simply have better flotation to stay on the powder.

newer chassis do make tossing the sled around easier....just pure physics there. lighter and lower center of gravity. HOWEVER, 99% of the time that does not do too much for you. changing directions in mid carve....yes....rockin' a big climb....no.

if you want to be a better rider there are two way to do it.

1) ride with folks that are way better then you and watch what they do differently then you....ask questions.

2) ride with people who suck so bad you look like a vet pro......your choice.

the sled does not make the rider. a good rider is a good rider on an unfamiliar sled too.

staying updated on the latest and greatest techonolgy is mostly a good thing IMO.. however if you couldn't ride before.. a new sled wont help you..

03 escape

I was out yesterday with some guys that have new sleds an 09 m8 153 and a 09 revxp 800 163. MY 03 vertical escape was laying it down, and i have to say i was pleased to be at the top of the hill looking down at those stuck sleds. Maybe polaris's best sled ever IMO. still hangs with the new stuff for 1/2 the price.:beer;:beer;

Are you sure about lower center of mass? With how much more suspension the news sleds have (especially in the front) it would seem to negate any improvement in engine location.
I love my IQ, it's way better than the Edge and Gen 2 but that's only because I like to jump and ride hard so the better suspension designs are the difference, but carving and side hilling I think the previous generation was equal if not better.

every year my dealer tells me it does...my wife says it doesn;t...my heart says it does...my bank says it doesn;t ..the expensive ads says it does..the 12 year old kid highmarking me on the 500 says it doesn;t...

every one started out basically on a fairly sh!tty rowdy sled thats what makes you learn how to ride then when you hop on a good one your dam well amazing on the mtn because you use to have to make your old sled dance to get anywhere. and a new sled for some people makes a huge difference a guy i know riding a vertical escape hopped on a borrowed rev went from being a full boar stay on the trail rider to a dude flying through the ditches going up the mtn to climb the hills.

As a beginner going from an older sled to a newer one was the difference between carving and....not carving.
Made it much easier to learn the basics-for me.
New sleds handle better/much easier, have better power, how could you not learn faster?

the new sleds will compliment your riding...while I agree with tim(theultrarider) in that a good rider can make any sled go..the newer sleds will make it easier, make you look better and not wear you out near as bad at the end of the day... I promise if you offered a new sled of choice to every rider on here..not one would keep his old sled over a new sled...

Won't make you a better rider. I think the newer sleds do bring out the best of your abilities though. A few years back going from a ZX to a Rev, it just seemed like everything was easier. I know I could never go back to a ZX or an edge chassis.........

riders' abilities

My first sled was a 1982 Kawasaki 550. A bullet in a straight line, but I can't count how many times I rolled that thing!:o The only front suspension it had was the leaf spring on the ski. But it has been said that you learn more from your failures than you do from you successes, so I was forced to learn to throw my weight around to make it handle better, or learn to like concussions:rolleyes: Yes, better equipment can help, but the most important equipment is between the ears;) Compare this to golf. A guy can go buy a $600 driver, but that just enables him to hit the ball FURTHER into the woods:D So a big buck sled can get you further up the hill before you roll or get stuck.
