I was a gnats *** away from taking the 07 with the new motor, until the 06 came available. Both Megacabs, the 06 has 65k miles and the 07 has 4300 miles. I can't decide!!!!!!!!

Let's hear real world experiences between the 5.9 and 6.7.

Do they both have 100k powertrain warranty?

whichever you can get the best price on.

Both have the same warranty.

6.7 has more power, but more potential for breakdowns and more warranty claims due to the bluetech crap.

IMO: The 5.9 is a tried and true engine. Dodge has been running it since '89...and it probably one of the most popular diesel engines ever built. I have a '98 24v and i wouldnt trade it for anything. I havent been around many 6.7's, but what i have heard about them hasnt been the best of news. The 6.7 has MUCH more electronics associated with the emissions standards being the way they are...the DPFs plug up and require a re-gen session, and if something goes wrong, those filters are VERY expensive. From my point of view, the 5.9 is like the small block chevy of the diesel world...a proven powerplant with lots of parts available...and one hell of a reputation. The decision is truly up to you, but i hope this helps you in your choice.

I drive an 06 5.9, and i love it, but that being said, i think the 6.7 minus the emissions is the better truck. Better tranny, and exhaust brake stock. Buy the 6.7, pull the emissions stuff off, add a PMT, and you'll love it.

void the warranty on a new truck, not too many folks who would do it.the 5.9 is tried tested and trued.we will know more about the 6.7 in about five years. let them all get some high miles and see how they are after that.

Check with your dealers service manager and see if they are cool with mods. My 06 is very very far from being stock, and not once have i had an issue with warranty. My brother drives a 6.7 mega cab on 37's with not one piece of emissions equipment left, and that thing is an absolute monster. Gets better mileage than my 06 as well.

Also i could be mistaken, but i think it's just the motor that has the 100.000 mile warranty, not the rest of the powertrain, and the 48re auto is absolute garbage in stock form. Does not even compare to the 68rfe.

It isn't garbage. It's not an Allison in stock form, but it isn't as bad as most people make it out to be. It just wasn't designed to be used with any real power upgrades, so if you get the 48re just beef it up with a torque converter and a valve body and you'd be fine, or just get a totally built one w/ billet shafts if you are going for big power.

The low miles got me and I pulled the trigger on the 6.7. After a bunch of reading on different forums and sites it seems a lot like this 05 900 I just bought, after some $$ and mods it should be a good setup. I like the power it has right now, just need to do some delete's and get the mpg's up.
