Do I need to run Ski Doo Oil?

Snowmobiling is an expensive hobby either way you slice it . . BRP knows which oil is best for use in their engines, and that is the oil they formulated for us to use. I see no reason to use cheap oil in a sled that cost 10k. Use the oil that was designed for this engine. JMO.

I use to run the BRP oil. But my buddy from the one dealer ship told me that a good syn oil is fine. He said they never had any geif about warrenty with different oils. I run the shell stuff and i notice no changes except that i can get it for almost 50/4L jug cheaper than BRP oil. But BRP oil is good no questions about that, but when you buy a 15K sled, some times you dont have that much money left over.

I've run amsoil in everything I own for the last 8 years with no issues at all. I sell the synthetic 2 stroke in bulk so I order it a drum at a time...makes it pretty cheap comparitively.

How do you formulate a oil for any brand of engine???
They all have bearings, pistons and other moving parts.

What is so different from a basic Ski Doo engine to a Polaris engine to a Cat engine???

I know that Indy Dan ( Polaris engine guru ) says that there is nothing wrong with plain old petroleum oil is just fine, and he has never had a oil related failure because of petroleum oil use .
