Do I need to run Ski Doo Oil?

Hi guys, just picked up an 09 146 everest and in all my past sleds 03/05/07 I have run Motul Snow Power 2T Oil. It is a full synthetic and have never had any problems.

Do I need to run ski doo oil or are others here using their favorite? A buddy said he had to sign something voiding the warranty if he does not run ski doo..is this true? Thanks...

Voiding the warranty eh?
I know a lot of people run the Doo oil while under warranty.

Here's my question. How the hell would the dealer know what oil was in your sled if it had an issue, blew up, etc? Is he going to siphen it out and run it to a test lab to check? I think not.

You'll get some good opinions on here. It seems to be a very individual decision for most. I know lots of people just stick with what has worked for them.

I ran Citgo Sea and Snow for years b/c it was 11.00/gal. but no it is not around anymore. I put 11,000 miles on a 500ss without touching the engine and that sled is still going. Just my .02

run what you want..if you are worried about it klotz is the only oil brp recemends besides their own

unless brp wants to pay for your oil you can run whatever brand you want as long as it meets there standereds witch is listed in the owners manual. I run klotz in my stuff and when my 04 ate a piston skirt and took the crank case with it, i had no problems getting it fixed on brps money

That is exactley it---Manufacturers can not tell you that you have to run their oil unless they supply the oil to you at NO charge.

I run Redline--had a motor issue and Doo covered it--of course the issue was not due to the oil.

H20SKE...

I run cheap Petroleum Oil in all of my sleds.
So what if I have to clean my exhaust valves once or twice a year.

Theres actually a law prohibiting manufacturers from forcing you to use their oil.

If a manufactured states you have to use it or your warranty is void, then they have to provide the oil to you free of charge.

It was posted on the snowest forums so it must be true. I Remember looking into it a couple of years ago, if I can find the legislation I will post
it for you.

Even the cheapest oils meet the minimum manufacturers requirements (ie: TCW3, etc.)

According to one of Skidoo's top reps for north america, not using Brp oil will void warrenty, run it till the warrenty is up and then switch if you want. The blend is a great oil and cheaper than others anyway, why switch and chance a motor problem?

why switch? because it can be debated all day long what the best oil is... some say skidoo, some say another brand...... what can't be debated is the cost... skidoo oil is primo dollars compared to others and NO, they can't void your warranty for using something else..... It doesn't matter what the rep's tell you,..... haveing to use skidoo oil to not void a warranty is a lie!

i run Amsoil Interceptor full syn. and Amsoil syn. in the chain case as well
many miles and no issue
both in my doo and in my cat

only 35 for 4 litres instead of 80 from the local dealer

Actually The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act ((P.L. 93-637) is a United States federal law (15 U.S.C. § 2301 et seq.))

States that If a manufacture limits a warranty biased on use of a product that said manufacture sells said manufacture must supply you with product until the warranty is up

I don't work for BRP, but that does not mean I don't know about laws and what a manufacturer can and can't do....

Go read your manual..... it states you can use any oil as long as it meets the minimum standard....granted, they hide this in very small print in the back, but it is still there. Oil is Oil and BRP knows it, and they also know there are other brands that are cheaper and in some cases better.

It would be in there best interest to get people to believe what your rep friend says, even though it is not true!

dont really matter what oil ya run, it'll still blow up. pick a higher quality brand and buy the extra warrenty if available and just ride.

shell advance full synthetic is what i run in my sleds.
