Oh, I understand, but I am not going to get excited until the next election cycle. Bill Clinton came in with the same ideas and scared middle America so badly that they packed congress with republicans and he became a lame duck president. Unfortunately, lame duck presidents are generally popular because they lack any power to piss people off. Come November 2011 and if the country still thinks this bull is a good idea...then I am scared ****less. Jimmy Carter had his Ronald Regan and deregulation. Obama actually has me less scared than congress...What has me bothered is that there seems to be an attitude where people have decided to quit relying on themselves and now want a big baby sitter...and the more they rely on this baby sitter, the less likely they are to change things when need changing...badly.

I think you are over reacting. There will be elections for years to come. How useful they are or remain is another question. It is never too late. It is just a matter of how painful it gets before things need to change. I am thinking America is way to lazy and fat to take up arms yet.

What's more American than a company whose majority is owned by the US government which is by way of extension, the American people. What changed with the US constitution that made the government the enemy overnight. You have a 2 party system. One winner and one loser. You win one or 2 terms and then you go to the other side. Granted the government seems to be more involved than in past administrations but the majority of your citizens voted for the party in power.
BTW, the US government owns a percentage of the company. They also owned a huge chunk of Chrysler in the 80's. THey were paid back. IF you want GM to pay the loans out, buy a GM product. If you don't, buy something else and wonder what the he11 happened.
Before you get all up in my grill, yeah, I'm Canadian and I work for a GM dealer so you can say I have a slightly skewed opinion. At the end of the day, the employees of GM and the dealer network in the US appreciate the fact that they have jobs to go to. The unions are horrible blah blah blah but they are still people who need to work to feed families, buy sleds and boats and bikes and trailers etc.
The world's not perfect for everybody at the same time.
