DirtBike's anybody?

if you are under 180 lbs a 250 f (moto version)will work great. It wont be all that great for big hillclimbing or dune-ing, but for track days and woods riding they are nimble and dont kick your ***.
A 450 will feel like an apex in tight tree's( not good) If your are a novice or small in size, stay away from one( a 450) unless you have good medical insurance, and can take 4-6 weeks off work often.
If you get a 250 wr or 250 crf x it will be pokey compaired to it's higher strung brother(s) a crf/kxf/rmz or yz f.
I work at a bike shop and have been racing moto/offroad for 28 years
My opinion is
Yamaha 4 strokes 2003 to new are great, if you buy used get valves re-set before you ride it.
04-06 suzuki's are total garbage, infact all suzuki's are crap. In the racing world most pro's and or intermadiates would rather pay for another brand rather than ride a suzuki for free.
HOnda's are good bikes but require alot of valve adjusting.
Kawi 450's are great, as for the 250's, I would stay away from an 04 to 06, but the 07's and 08 were great.
Ktm's are nice but $$$$$$ now, $$$$$ later.
motocross is 95 % rider, 5 % bike, I reccomend sticking with a yzf or kxf, I'm riding a 2009 kxf 450 and it rocks.
My bike for the last 2 seasons was a 07 yz 450, it was relaible, plus out of the box performance was great.
My 05 Honda crf 450 ate valves like no other, but was killer to ride
my 2 cents

I just looked at/road an 04 YZ250 2 stroke. New top end. It's titled however the headlight and tail light really don't work. Just there for looks :) I guess all i care is that it has a plate :)

I'll most likely do trail riding around Nederland and some trips out to mtns. No track, no racing.

The guy is gonna sell it to me for $2k :) and i'm gonna beat the crap out of it :)

That is a great bike. My bro has a YZ250 and he loves it.

What do you think of these? I wanna lay them down on my plastics.

i am leaning toward a 250 2 stroke. that will be a good platform to learn on . For under $2,500 it is low risk. Once i'm hooked i'm sure i'll step right up to a 450 4 stroke

As long as you have a good throttle hand (meaning a very smooth CONTROLLING throttle hand) then the 250 2 stroke can make a good learner bike. They are incredible on the fun meter, but not as easy to ride. A flywheel weight can help smooth it out, as will pipes and reeds. I thought you had experience on bikes.....well, I would guess the sled would count for something tho. They are a blast!! Would love to pick one up myself....if it weren't for the whole unemployed thing....guess my trusty street legal XR600+ whill have to do for awhile.

I agree with nearly everything said here^! The ONLY thing I disagree with is the absolutism against all Suzukis. I think their 450 RMZ is a nice machine, and the DRZ (I know, NOT an mxer) has a heckuva following in the DS world. I don't think they ever really figured out the 250 4s yet, but I think Ricky Carmichael helped their 450 program quite a bit. It's working for Reed, too....

Good advice!!

steel town has it right ! Don't be scarred of getting 250f Still plenty fast! stay away from sujunky & kwaker good running & handling bikes they just break to much

Dropped coin on these Saturday from Xtreme. We are in the process of getting geared up. Pretty tough since no one can sell "kids" stuff anymore.
Good thing we have Craigslist!

Finished my engine and clutch maintenance on mine yesterday. Put on a new triple clamp and was gonna pressure wash the frame and motor today but 9news was wrong again. It was supposed to be sunny but it isn't.

Congrats Jim. I'll post pics when mine is completed. Gonna work on the graphics today.

I came real close to getting a YZ450F but I think that would have been way
too much for bike for me. I'm sure it would hav been a real biotch on trails.

I'm glad I went WR so far, I was supprised of the power it has.
