Different avy bag sizes??

I'm looking to get my son an avy bag, however he is a smaller framed guy. Only 5'9" and 140 pounds. Size large in everything, and he is swimming. What brand offers smaller sizes for smaller frames?

I have a ABS Powder SB 15 and it gets pretty small. My buddy wore it last season and he is a couple pounds lighter but about the same height as your son. I had to order the "fat guy" strap extensions for me to wear it And I am 6-2 and 235lbs

I recently git a BCA 32 bag and I think for the average day ride its a little big. The BCA 22 or 25 seem to be a better fit from what I have seen. Those comments are for adult sizing so I would definitely try and find something more like a 15liter bag for his size. Hope that helps. I'm just not familiar with what brands that may be

I just bought the bca mtnpro vest airbag and it adjust from small to large. I put it on my son and was able to adjust it to fit him. You might want to try one on and see if it will work.

I came to the avy section to post a blog written by Mike Duffy and saw this post. Here is the Mike Duffy Post:

What to carry in your Avalanche Bag

To your question, I have a son who is about 5'10" and about 160lbs he used to use the ABS Freeride, last year we tried a BCA Vest. I don't think he would ever go back to the backpack style again. If you look at the above link, Mike is using the BCA Vest. Not sure of Mike's size but here is a guess: 5'7" to 5'8" and he is a skinny guy. Another advantage of the vest is protection. Everyone I know that wears a vest now would not ride without one after wearing it for a couple of days. I started wearing a Klim Vest after I separated my ribs from my rib-cage about 8 years ago in Togwotee.

We currently have all BCA Gear 10% Off:

BCA Avalanche Bags

BCA Pro vest

I'm 5'6", 138 lbs, the BCA Pro Vest fits fine, loaded weighs 15 lbs, ride 6-7 hr days back country no problem. Won't leave home without it. Barely know I have it on.
