Difference between 07 1000 engine and 08/09 1000? CAn you add reverse?

I thought the 1000 engine has essentially remained the same since it came out?

Can you add reverse to a 07 1000?

Before anybody pops on and drops the "07 M100s have reverse" I think you mean "electronic" reverse. Not possible with the 2007 unless you get a 2008 or newer ECU.

As for the engine, yes it is relatively unchanged since inception.

You also need to add the wiring and switch, change the DD and secondary clutch.

Not worth the trouble

The o7's were pretty much bullet proof but in 08 cat was trying to keep up with the Joneses on the wieght issue and went real wimpy on the DD for 08 and 09 and now 2010. Their claim to fame is that it shaves 12lbs off and there is a trade off for it, be very very gentle with it and only use it for backing off the trailer. If you want strong you need real steel. the 08's and up went for 3 diff alloys of cheap pot metal every where they could in and on the DD's and it's starting to show up.

The majority of trashed DD's I've seen have been mech reverse 07 sleds.

In my opinion, the biggest problem in the DD's was the mech reverse, if you didn't go into reverse carefully & perfectly you took a chance of damaging it. (that in mind, I had a couple thousand miles of reversing down hills, using it to come off the deck every day, etc, and no problems on MY 07)
