Just as the title asks, I've got a 06 setup on my 1000, just want to know what the differences are. Thanks

DD

Stick with the DD you have now. In some 08's and up cat tryed to keep up with the Joneses on the wieght issue and shaved 12 lbs by using(cheap) pot metal instead of real steel. if you want a real wieght savings going fluff on the gear box should be the last thing to be compromised.

A couple issues here, Cat didn't make a 1000 in 06 and an 06 drive won't fit in a 07 or 08 1000. The 06 drive has a different bolt pattern than the 07+. The 07 and 08 drives are basically the same. Some of the 08 gears seem to just be spot welded where the 07's that I've seen are fully welded gears. It seems like the 07 is a little better DD than the 08, but not by much. Cat went to an engine reverse in 09 like Doo has been using for years so they redesigned the inside of the DD and did away with the mechanical reverse mechanism. The 09 + DD is just a single input and transfer gear that turns the planetary. The 07-08 drive had different gears and the case shifted internally. The 09 case is much better than the 07-08 cases but there is an issue with a bearing in the 09 that you can upgrade with a different bearing. There is a thread on here about the failing 09 bearing. the 09+ DD has the same internal parts as the 05-06 DD but they are in the same case as the 07-08 DD. An 09 case will bolt up to a 07 or 08 M, but not an 05-06. If you go to an 09 drive in your 07 or 08 you will lose reverse unless you update the ecu and do an electronic reverse upgrade.

Funny because I just stuck a '05 BDX lite drive in my '08 M1000 and it fits perfect. The BDX drive I just bought used has a manufacturer date of 12/04. I believe you are wrong. I think the '05-'06 drives will fit in the late model sleds with there drive shafts but not the other way around. Of course you loose the reverse doing this........

Not real sure what is going then if you got a drive out of an 05 in your 08. Here are pictures of the 06, 07 and 09 Diamond drives, in that order from top to bottom. When I put a tape measure on the holes from center to center they are different. The ones on top are close but from the top holes to the bottom they are over an inch off. Anyone else put a 05/06 M Series drive in a 07+ M series sled?

True enough, but I have a 07 1000 turbo that was fit into a 06 m7 bulkhead.

dd fit

Very interesting thread. I picked up a 07 m8 and wanted to put my 05 dd in it. Jeff at BDX told me my 05 dd had a different bolt pattern. Any one else?

was looking at my buddies M7 last night and the bolt pattern doesn't even look close...
