Diesel nears the $5.00 dollar mark and most likely a way of life

Revolution

This country is real close to a revoulution, the whole package. We are talking fuel, illegals, housing, etc.
I wonder if the greenies could let us start our oil pumping back in our soils to help accomodate some of the burden. I too am looking in to my own at home refinery for us diesel users. It would be nice to tell the oil companies to go pack sand... I can't believe we don't hear that much about theft for fuel, get those locking gas caps if you don't already have them.

Big

I don't know about you guys but I'm staying home this summer and working on the house and building a garden and other gay stuff like that because of the fuel crunch. After the long winter, I'm broke..

pimp'n aint easy...and now its not cheap either!

Just got a new fifth wheel that I am goin to be pulling with my Dmax. definetly looking at closer locations with only one long distance trip planned. Luckily I live in Colorado so don't really have to travel far to get into some beautiful spots.

I certainly wouldn't waste my money on any of these extras unless I was financially stable. Always amazed to see someone complaining about spending money on sledding while sitting in their apartment?

I say we start a low level type mafia and hijak some fuel tankers, and sell it for .10 a litre, even the bloody cops will buy it from us.

Sounds like the beginning to a Mad Max...... I am in as long as I get a sawed off double barrel and of course a falcon with a switched supercharger......

Crude is almost 120 a barrel.

Man, to be long the board today....

If you look at a longer term chart of oil it appears that it is popping over the top of an upper trendline, which typically indicates its run is about over. Also, when everybody and their brother are throwing in the towell really cutting back on the gas use, the price will drop. It may shoot up a little more from here, but its about run its course. Some wiseguy was yapping about $300 a barrell in a year or so, then $1000 by 2010-11, uh, looks like the home builders in 05, and the nasdaq in 99-00.

We have so many ways of correcting the fuel prices, but for some reason we can't all get on the same page to get it done. The other countries who are buying fuel have no way of consuming are demand. If we don't buy for a short time the price would drop so fast we would'nt believe it.

After all the political bull$hit and all the corporate dishonesty it still boils down to supply and demand.

We are parking the truck for the summer. Tedd has bought a street bike and will ride it every day he doesn't need to haul something. We have modified our plans to tow the toyhauler anywhere this summer. Will be driving the V6 and staying in hotels or at friend's home for our summer trips. Our goal is to only have to fill the diesel up once a month...or less.

Even regular unleaded hit the $3.49 mark here this morning. For the next 8 weeks, I am averaging 100+ miles every day. DANG!! That is just PAINFUL at the pumps! Once this 8 weeks is over, I plan to only drive to the grocery store! Perfect time to start working from home. :)

Our revised summer travel plans and reduced commuting miles will reduce our fuel costs anywhere from $800-$1000 a month. (now I feel sick....I hadn't done the math on those costs recently....UGH!!)

Yeah, it sucks that everybody can't change something drastic quickly. It takes a while for a trend to happen, people buying more 4 cyl cars, more hybrids, and metros. My son said he wants a geo metro, we looked on Craigslist for them and there were as many wtb ads as there were for sale, so something is happening.

I don't think the current price of gas is changing people's behaviors at all. The roads are still crowded. There are still plenty of snowmobiles on the hill. The fact that gas prices are rising and people believe they wont go back down might keep some newcomers from taking up snowmobiling in some parts of the country, but not here.

I think in mountain areas will continue to see an increase in the number of snowmobilers. A lot of the new snowmobilers in the mountains are skiers and snowboarders that are looking for faster backcountry access. I bet half of these people eventually quit skiing to focus on sledding. I havent quit snowboarding yet, but the time may come.....

That being said, I think all bets are off if it reaches $9-10 a gallon. Hopefully by then we will all have 300 hp solar powered sleds. Too bad Bush was elected (was he even elected the first time?), we would probably be a lot closer to a reasonable alternative to oil. Gore would have pushed for it.

I noticed it has really driven up food prices (and likely alot of other things). This will really hurt the lower and lower-middle class. We complain about having to cut back on sledding or riding closer to home, but we have it good compared to ALOT of people who find it harder to afford to drive to work or buy food for the family.....The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

I agree. That is the larger effect of the oil prices. What a shame.

individual numbers vary slightly depending on source, but the you'll get the general idea

CROP .................... Oil Yield (gallons/acre)

corn ...................... 18
Cotton ................... 35
Soybean ................. 48
Mustard Seed .......... 61
Sunflower ............... 102
Rapeseed (canola) ... 127
Jatropha ................ 202
Oil Palm ................. 635
Algae ................. 10,000+

~25 vendors have working models for squeezing oil out of algae and chemically processing it for freeze points below JP-5 (aviation fuel) ~ -45F They gotta develop the large scale growing/processing plants - which may be several years off...

I wish the local Biodiesel vendor had used some pour point depressant in their canola based fuel this winter... some time ago I posted a picture of my cut open fuel filter - clogged with solidified biodiesel - looked like (yellow) crisco

That's funy stuff right there, but if Gore were elected, where would you ride your sled because they woudl have been outlawed. Gore said 5 years ago that in 20 years he wanted to completely ban the combustable engine???LOL
